It was the day. The day Grian was going to reveal some of his past to Xisuma. The day he might never be on Hermitcraft again.
Slowly, Grian made his way towards the voidwalker's base. His nerves became more intense as he got closer.
When he arrived, he found Xisuma hunched over a desk, scanning through the server's code.
Not wanting to spook the admin, the blonde avian knocked against the door frame catching Xisuma's attention.
"Come in" the voidwalker called out, not taking his eyes away from the code.
"Hey X, I think I'm ready" Grian spoke slowly as he made his way towards Xisuma. This caused him to look away from the code and towards the blonde.
"Are you sure Grian, like I said when you first joined hermitcraft, there's no pressure to talk about your past" Xisuma said, standing up and walking towards the blonde and putting his hands on the shorter hermit's shoulders.
"I know and I don't plan to go too much into detail but there are some things I feel as though it's time for you to know."
"How about we moved this to the living room where it's comfier."
"Yeah."
And so the two did just that, sitting on a sofa chair opposite from one another.
"You can start whenever you're ready Grian" Xisuma spoke up, receiving a nod from the man across from him.
"Okay, so as you know my past isn't exactly the best and I, I've been masking who I become because of it" Grian began.
"How so?"
"Well, the main thing I've been masking is that I was once an admin, and admin of a server destroyed by watchers."
"But there's only been one server destroyed watchers, that being Evo."
"Yeah, I know."
"You were the admin?"
"I was, at first it was supposed to just be a server where I could just hang out with my friends but then the watchers began to mess with it. At first it started off with some small puzzles, then it slowly began to escalate. Eventually it came time for me and the rest of the evolutionists to fight the ender dragon. Although as we all went through the end portal, we were separated. We each had a dragon to fight on our own. When I defeated mine, I went to jump through the portal and head back to the overworld. I never did make it through the portal."
"How come?"
"Watchers came and stopped me, they offered me a deal. They said if I were to join them they would leave Evo alone and that if I didn't they would destroy the place."
"So you didn't join them?"
"No, I did join them, but it didn't matter, they destroyed Evo anyway. They wanted to ensure I didn't escape and run away. They believed the only way to do so was to make it so I didn't have a place to return to. However, that didn't stop me. When I found out they destroyed Evo, I ran and then I found myself falling through Hermitcraft's firewall and well, the rest is history."
"That's a lot to process."
"I understand if you kick me from Hermitcraft."
"Why would I kick you from the server?"
"I'm a watcher, X."
"You did what you thought would help protect your friends. If I was in your position, I would have done the same thing. Plus, you escaped and ran away from them."
"I'm still a watcher."
"Your code may say that you're a watcher, but you aren't. A watcher would never behave the way you do, so no matter what your code says, you are not a watcher."
"Fine, but that doesn't change the fact that I hide it from you behind a hypothetical mask."
"Grian, whether you realise it or not, we're all wearing masks. That's what makes us interesting."
After Xisuma said that, Grian immediately burst into tears and wrapped his arms around the voidwalker. Without hesitation, Xisuma hugged back, comforting the blonde hermit, happy that said blonde felt safe enough to tell Xisuma about some of his past.
