Ship - Shin Soukoku
Timeline - Future
Includes - Fluff, Memory loss Atsushi
The night was cold, with rain hammering down on Yokohama's streets, casting an eerie glow on the soaked pavement. Atsushi's body ached as he stood panting, the remnants of a battle lingering in the air. He had been fighting alongside Akutagawa, as always, though their teamwork was a volatile mix of tension and unspoken emotions.
They had been ambushed by a powerful enemy, one with an ability that Atsushi had barely seen coming. His eyes were blurry, his mind clouded with the overwhelming dizziness that suddenly swept over him as their enemy's attack landed.
"Jinko!" Akutagawa's voice cut through the haze, a mixture of fury and desperation. Atsushi blinked, confused, and disoriented. The sharp tone of his name felt foreign, unfamiliar, as if it had never belonged to him at all.
He stumbled, gripping his head in pain. The world spun wildly. Memories, faces, places, they all melted into an incomprehensible blur. He could see Akutagawa rushing toward him, the ever-present coldness in his partner's eyes replaced by something far more worrying.
"Atsushi, pull yourself together," Akutagawa growled as he caught him, barely able to support Atsushi's weight. "We need to retreat."
Atsushi stared at him, eyes wide, confused. "Who... who are you?"
Akutagawa froze. His grip tightened on Atsushi's arm, his expression darkening as though he hadn't heard right. "What did you just say?"
Atsushi pushed him away, staggering backward. "I-I don't know who you are... or where I am." His voice trembled, laced with fear.
Akutagawa's jaw clenched. His temper, always simmering beneath the surface, flared for a moment before he forced it down. He could see the panic in Atsushi's eyes, the genuine terror of someone lost in their own mind.
The enemy had already fled, leaving them standing alone in the rain. Atsushi's memory... gone. Completely wiped. And the worst part? Atsushi didn't remember him.
Akutagawa had taken Atsushi back to his apartment, a silent tension hanging heavily between them. Atsushi had barely spoken a word on the way there, his eyes darting around nervously, studying everything as though he were seeing it all for the first time. Akutagawa, on the other hand, was quieter than usual, his mind a whirlwind of frustration, concern, and... something else he couldn't name.
Atsushi sat on the edge of the bed, his hands fidgeting as he glanced up at Akutagawa, who stood nearby, arms crossed, face unreadable.
"I don't... remember anything," Atsushi admitted quietly, his voice barely above a whisper. "I don't know who I am... or who you are." He glanced down at his trembling hands. "It's like my whole life has been erased."
Akutagawa exhaled slowly, the sound almost resembling a sigh, though it was tinged with irritation. But beneath that irritation, something softer lurked, an emotion Akutagawa wasn't used to confronting. He didn't know how to handle this. Atsushi, his rival, his constant source of anger and frustration, now sat before him, lost and vulnerable.
And Akutagawa... he didn't know what to do.
"You're Atsushi Nakajima," Akutagawa said flatly, stepping closer. "A detective... and a pain in the neck."
Atsushi blinked, his eyes wide with uncertainty. "And you? Who are you?"
"Akutagawa." His name slipped from his lips coldly, but it didn't carry the usual venom. He was trying to be patient. Akutagawa didn't know why, but he was.
