Tonight was a magical night. The biggest musicians in the world gathered together in hopes of taking home the most prestigious award a musician could get: a Grammy. Everyone puts on their best clothes and celebrates the night that can change their lives.
The stakes are high, and the nominees have adrenaline rushing through them. Tonight might be the night their work finally gets the recognition that everyone hopes to get.
There are about 90 categories, although people only ever hear about a handful of them. Tonight, Kat and her band, Crazy Saints are nominated for Best Metal Performance and Best Rock Album. In a desperate attempt to calm her nerves down, Kat got herself drunk. The whole night is nothing but a blur in her mind.
She remembers getting to the venue, complaining about how the whole show is rigged, holding on to her band mates to be able to reach the stage and claim their awards and not much after that. She really did hate the ceremony, this being her and Crazy Saints' 6th year being nominated for something, and then attending the show ONLY to lose. This year however, instead of taking home the bitter feeling of disappointment, they're taking the two awards they were nominated for.
After getting their awards, the band headed towards the exclusive room where all the winners take a photo. There was someone that Kat didn't recognize taking a picture, and then another group in front of them, waiting in line to get their picture taken as well.
The group ahead had 7 members, all looking sharp with their custom-made tuxedos. Kat couldn't help but look and think about how handsome they were. One of the members of the group was bickering in a language that Kat recognized as Korean.
"I can't believe they robbed us again, and then have the fucking nerve to let us take this stupid picture as a consolation prize and say we should be honored. Next year I'm staying home, I already know they'll give the award to someone else. Man! What a waste of fucking time!"
Kat should've kept quiet, but the alcohol in her blood made her more bold than usual. So, without thinking she replied in Korean too:
"What are you even complaining about!? At least your category is televised, we just won two Grammys, and nobody gives a shit. We won and nobody knows we did; nobody knows who we are. You should be grateful that anyone even cares about your work, some of us aren't that lucky!"
"I'd rather have the Grammy, who gives a shit what people think? At least you know that the effort you put into looking good was worth something. We look great, and for what? Still lost" He replied, without even turning back to look at her.
"It's just an award man, you probably already have tons of those."
Yoongi finally turned and was a little taken aback by how Kat looked. She didn't look like someone who'd know Korean, yet there she was speaking it, with a slight accent that also emphasized she wasn't a native speaker. Looking at Kat with a slight smirk, he lightly chucked before replying "Yeah, you're right. We do have tons of these. I'm Yoongi by the way."
"I know who you are, everyone does. I'm Kat, nice to meet you".
"How do you know how to speak Korean, if you don't mind me asking?"
"I'm a polyglot. I learned French, German and English at school, and then started learning Korean because I was going to spend a few months recording in Korea. I wanted to challenge myself and see if I could master the tongue in a few months. So I studied hard, and practiced a lot, by the time our time there was done I was almost fluent."
"Oh wow, I'm impressed! Your Korean is really good!"
"Thanks, I get that a lot!"
"So, what style of music do you make?"
The rest of the conversation is yet another blur in Kat's mind. She remembers walking to the couch to take the photo with her band mates, the flashing lights of the cameras and nothing more. Even as she stared at the phone number on her arm, she has no idea who's phone number is that, or how she got it. All she knows at the moment is that her head hurts too much to even try and find who that phone number belongs to.
