Pyra POV

I groaned softly. My head ached, and I could hardly move a muscle.

Pyra: Urr...nhhh... Where...?

Mythra: Strung up in some kind of restraint. Look ahead...

There was a massive machine in front of me. Pointed directly at me. I presumed it was some kind of Titan weapon.

Mythra: An Ether Accelerator. I've seen one like it before, in old Torna. It certainly seems like they want us gone for good....

I stared at it. This thing would be strong enough to kill me... And if not for Kai... but even still, I wasn't sure I wanted to stop it.

Mythra: If we cranked up the output and really focused it... we could probably manage one strike.

Pyra: If the people here really are the descendants of the Tornans... then I have a message for them that I must pass on.

Mythra: In that case, I'll leave it to you.

Pyra: Thank you, Mythra.

There was a pause, in which I steeled my resolve.

Mythra: He's here.

The King of Tantal walked up from an observation deck below.

Eulogimenos: I apologize for this, noble Aegis. I have no personal grievance with you. However... For the sake of this world... You must be destroyed where you stand.

There must be another reason. Or at least, another motive.

Pyra: Is that truly your desire, Your Majesty?

Eulogimenos: I believe you desired the same thing yourself, once. Is that not why you disappeared from history along with Addam the hero?

I didn't respond, I wasn't sure that was a question I was going to answer. Maybe it started out that way, but I wasn't so confident about it anymore. The king waved his hand at one of his nearby lackeys.

Eulogimenos: Begin.

Something burst open down below

Rex: Pyra!

Pyra: Rex!

I was relieved to see him, but where was Kai?

The others struggled to overcome the rush of guards. But for every single one of them that got dispatched, two more would take their place in the fray.

Rex: Argh...! There's too many of them!

He bashed aside another guard. And Zeke cleared a large swath with a swing of his giant sword.

Zeke: Hurry, or Pyra's toast!

Rex: I know that! It's just-

Rex got nailed by the blunt end of a polearm, knocking him off-balance and making him refocus.

Eulogimenos: Forgive me...

Just then, the deck the soldiers were all guarding exploded. The guards yelled as they fell.

Pyra: Kai!

He was up there, bashing aside soldiers like sacks of grain. But something was different. He seemed stronger. His hair was different too. Not black, but not its usual bleached color either. It was some kind of weird... silver? Regardless, he was rapidly making progress towards me.

Kai POV

My dispute with the literal embodiment of my negative emotions aside, this unity thing was nice. I felt whole. I would have to come to terms with this later, I supposed.

Kai: Get out of my sight.

I knocked another group of soldiers off of the platforms. Leaping off of the observation deck, running up the top side of the Accelerator.

Kai: I can feel the power thrumming through this thing. I can't let it fire.

I lept off of the end of the Accelerator, flipping around midair so that I was staring down the barrel of the massive weapon. It was glowing brightly. I was out of time.

Pyra *scared*: KAI!

I took a deep breath, and the world seemed to slow to a crawl. I fell ever-so-sluggishly directly into the line of fire, and my vision went blue. I felt like I understood the machine. How it manipulated the Ether. And then I made my move.

Kai: [Bounce]

Casting the spell once wouldn't be strong enough to reflect the shot. But I had to do whatever I could to stop this.

Kai: [Bounce] [Bounce] [Bounce] [Bounce!] [BOUNCE!]

The Ether Accelerator fired. And my vision went white.

I'm baaaaaack! Again, I know. I need to be a little more consistent. I know a lot of you have likely abandoned me by now. But I am seriously doing my best. Senior year is killing me. But, on the plus side, I found an S.O., and we're doing pretty good. Anyway, I promise that I'm trying really hard to get more updates rolling out for the few of you that stuck around.
