Request from @_Icarus-Falls_ sorry it took so long lol

The grass had been ripped apart and the mud had been revealed to bloody the green blades. Leaves scattered into the mixture were blended into fragments by a thousand footsteps, and on top lay bodies. Among them, discarded swords and dead arrows.

Above lay smoke. It was black and thick, trying to get away from their flaming source but getting lost in the confusion. Yells and shouts and screams were hidden by it – coming from everywhere at once to taunt those alone and to further agitate those fighting.

As soon as the other side had lit the fires, the smoke had consumed everyone and stolen their plans. Wels had lost his men. At first, he had been leading them, but now he had no comprehension of their positions, nor his own. Forwards and backwards were identical, and his only company were the split-second glimpses he caught of people running in the action. But there was no choice other than to keep going.

He swung at the opposition whenever they materialised out of the surrounding void. It was the best attempt of tactics or formation that they could make.

Someone appeared wearing the opposing colours, but, mid-swing;

"Jevin." He stuttered, dropping his arm.

It was like time slowed down; like it stopped completely. And like it sped up. As their eyes locked, two armies disappeared and, within the mist, they were alone. The footsteps around them morphed into their memories.

But time had not stopped. Jevin gasped and jumped forwards with his sword when one of his own soldiers appeared swinging. Wels turned to see the unknown man fall and then he met Jevin's eyes again for just a moment longer. They were the same eyes from all those years ago, dressed up in royal armour and battle scars and aged with the woes of life, but they were the same nonetheless.

After so much time, the man was right there. They were so close.

And then they were not.

Jevin turned and disappeared into the wall of fog, leaving Wels with regret.

Of so many words, none had been said.
