Love Wins All LimingHeart AU

Heart smiles when he signs to Liming. Pretty eyes twinkling under the cloudy, pollution-filtered sky. It's dark, but yet whenever Heart smiles at him, the sun seems to shine again. It was a miracle that they've run this far. From Pattaya to Phuket by foot.

They're silent, but it wasn't as though Heart's voice could make any sound when he hadn't been able to speak for five years since the Cubes. Liming wishes he could take in the boy's smile with both eyes.

Heart's smile was a sight for sore eyes, a bright light for those looking for hope, and Liming was so grateful that the boy was here. Humans were greedy to want more and even as Liming hoped to hear Heart say his name again, he knows the male can't. Not with the lack of water to help his broken, unused voice.

Liming knows that no matter what, he'll protect this boy, who's now curled up in his arms under an abandoned roof of someone's house that had been half-destroyed. It's winter in Thailand and near the coasts, it's even colder. He hugs the shivering boy close and falls asleep, himself.

Through passing time, Liming has found something that can fend them off the cubes, even if for a short while of it being stunned. It seems to stop moving whenever he hits it on the upside of the cube. However, the thing is eight feet wide and tall, there's no way for Liming to do any of that on a lower level.

He has been starving for days and whatever scrap he's able to find he's been giving to the boy he loves, who tries to give it back to him. They move slowly by the days, and they're not sure where they're headed. However, with the mountains that they're seeing, they must be far from Thailand.

Everywhere, it's ruins. There are still civilizations left, they're sure. Because when Liming had found a semi-working radio, there was still music, still news on the cubes, and technology's still working.

By how it's starting to snow over the months as well - after the scorching hot summer - they're somewhere North. Passing by small villages here and there, they're in China. It's mostly deserted as expected, factories and farms left to abandon, but at least there is food in those barns and lockers.

Liming throws up when he eats more than he's been used to.

After all, Heart's chubby cheeks are now shaved down to his skull bones, and it hurts Liming to know that they won't last long. Heart isn't used to this, not even after the seven years they've been running. The boy's never gotten used to this new world where his luxuries are gone, and even Liming, who was too poor for air conditioning, was also starting to feel it.

No matter where they go, they've been rejected entry due to their disabilities. They can't risk other's safety and even with Liming's small amount of English, they hadn't been able to go anywhere that would take them. Even in a dystopian world, no one would take them.

Liming had read, on a newspaper that had flown past them, newly printed as well, that those Cubes were here to rid the world of imperfect humans. Those with disabilities. Liming hadn't meant to go blind, and Heart hadn't meant to go deaf. Why were they punished for something that wasn't up to them?

Just like how the Cubes are ridding the Earth of imperfect humans, their own kin had seemed to turn their backs on Heart and Liming as well.

The filth of the world, really.

  That's what they're seen as.

"Ai'Heart!" He screams when Heart is getting chased by the cubes, charging at it and pushing Heart back against the pile of clothing inside an abandoned mall.

  It was fun.

They found a camcorder where they're shown perfectly. Where Liming has two working eyes and Heart could hear his voice and tell him how much he loves him. Heart's falling and his broken sobs are breaking Liming.

They've both just turned 30 and yet..

  This is how it ends.

They've made it all the way to America on a barely working dingy. And yet.. the second they find a place to stay for the night, this is where they're headed. To the unknown that was within the cube.

Liming screams at the large sentient being with his whole body, smashing it on the upside as he gained enough height, but nothing happens. The blue light of it flickers in a way that was almost like Heart's house all those years ago.

Blood drops from his face, red like the hot sun in Pattaya.

His brittle body crashes against the thing to hold it off for Heart, but Heart just pulls him away from it. "L-Li-Lim.." His voice is dangerously scratchy, and when he tries again all that comes out are gasps. A broken sob and a cough from a dry throat. "Ming..."

In a moment, they're lifted into the air by such a force that they can't hide from. The cube is red, and it's sucking them right into the black abyss. "Ai'Heart.." He holds the boy's hand.

"I love you." They both say at the same time, but Heart's barely make it as a whisper. Heart wishes he could hear it. Liming wishes he could hear it.
