Okay, let me tell you a story...
When I was younger amidst middle and high school, there was this game store about 45 minutes from my house that my grandmother would take me and my siblings every now and then, though me mostly due to my desire to expand my collection.
As a person with the internet, I've heard wild stories about these games for the GameCube, some underrated, some considered masterpieces.
Hence, this game.
I've heard that this game was considered to be the best of the best, 10 out of 10, 99 on Metacritic, five stars.
And so, I decided to use precious funds to purchase this game. And it seemed like a good deal! Like...Master Quest, a physical version of the Nintendo 64 Disc Drive expansion that never released!
And so, I came home, popped the disc into my system, played it to the end and saw the credits and...
And...
I felt...

...Disappointed?
What...?
How could this be? Wasn't this...the best game of all time?
I'll tell you what I felt, and what I still feel like all these years later in retrospect.
When I saw the copper image of Link and Zelda in Hyrule Castle on the soft lock screen, I didn't feel anything.
Nothing. At all.
I didn't feel happy, sad, or angry. Nothing.
I didn't even gain a new insight into video games as an art form.
I got...nothing.
I then figured out right then and there what I wanted in a video game, what I valued, what I looked for.
I wanted to play a game that challenged me, not only with gameplay, but ideas and concepts, games that actually had something to say, games that carved their own path in the universe of virtual entertainment.
I'll be entirely blunt with you all.
I didn't get that here.
Not at all.
And so, why?
Why did I reach this conclusion?
Well, before I begin, let me ask you a simple question.
Is there anything that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time does that either sets it apart or does better than any other 3D action-adventure game, including later 3D Zelda games?
For me, in a word, no.
There is not a single thing that Ocarina of Time has that I wouldn't be able to get in other games or that it has done better.
Not a single thing.
And so, I have but a singular thought process upon this very fact.
