-Omniscient POV:
Madison navigated through the Walmart aisles, pushing her cart with a growing sense of urgency. Her list was simple—bedsheets, a hamper, and snacks—but the task felt monumental with the weight of everything else on her mind. The smell of fresh popcorn from the snack stand barely registered; her thoughts were far from the store and firmly rooted in memories of Xolani. Not far away, Xolani strolled through the electronics section, casually inspecting televisions. Her cart was nearly empty except for a mini fridge and a few small items she'd grabbed on impulse. She checked her phone, noting the time—2:32 PM. She had no clue why her chest felt tight, but the thought of Madison flickered in her mind again.
As Xolani turned the corner toward the bedding section, Madison was just a few aisles down, comparing sheet sets. Madison's cart squeaked as she pivoted, causing Xolani to pause and glance up. The sound was oddly familiar, but the crowd of shoppers blurred faces into anonymity. For a brief second, she thought she saw a blue shirt that looked like something Madison would wear. She shook her head, dismissing it as wishful thinking, and turned toward the registers.
Madison glanced toward the electronics section but didn't linger. She headed to the checkout, her cart now stocked with the essentials. As she loaded her items onto the conveyor belt, her heart sank a little. The weight of missing Xolani grew heavier with every passing moment, the sense of her absence almost tangible.

A few days later
Omniscient POV:
That night, both Xolani and Madison found themselves dragged to the same party. It wasn't their scene, but dorm life came with persistent invitations and new faces, and both had reluctantly agreed to socialize.
The house was packed, the music loud enough to shake the walls. Madison stuck close to a group of girls from her dorm, sipping her drink and scanning the crowd. She didn't recognize anyone, but the ache in her chest hadn't faded—it seemed to follow her everywhere lately.Xolani arrived late, parking her car a few blocks away. She kept her hoodie up, blending into the crowd as best as she could. Parties weren't her thing, but she needed the distraction. The music and chatter did little to quiet her thoughts as she made her way inside, eyes scanning for a quiet corner.
It happened in an instant. Xolani turned her head, her eyes catching Madison's profile across the room. She froze, her breath hitching. Madison laughed at something someone said, her face glowing in the dim lighting. Xolani's heart thudded loudly, the moment surreal.Madison felt the weight of a stare and turned, her eyes locking onto Xolani's. For a moment, the noise of the party fell away. Their gazes lingered, the months of separation, misunderstandings, and longing reflected back at each other.
