Omniscient pov:

The sun was setting over the NCAT campus, casting a warm orange glow across the dormitory buildings. Students moved about the campus, laughter and chatter echoing in the distance. Inside her dorm, Madison sat cross-legged on her bed, headphones on, scrolling through her laptop absentmindedly. Her room was already coming together: soft fairy lights strung along the walls, a cozy pile of plush pillows, and her favorite blue throw draped over the back of her chair. Despite the comfort of her surroundings, her thoughts kept circling back to Xolani.

She had spent the night after the party replaying everything in her mind—their accidental reunion, the awkward tension, and the bittersweet way they had danced around what they'd missed. Part of her wanted to reach out and say something, but she couldn't quite muster the courage.

Meanwhile, across campus, Xolani had spent the better part of the day debating with herself. Should she just show up at Madison's dorm? Would that be weird? She didn't want to push too hard, but at the same time, the party had reminded her how much she missed Madison and their easy banter, their quiet moments, and even the presence of Madison's during their conversations.

In the end, Xolani decided she couldn't wait. She grabbed her keys, threw a hoodie over her shoulder and headed out. She didn't overthink what she wore: sweatpants, a fitted black tank, and her signature chain tucked beneath the neckline. As she approached Madison's dorm building, her heart raced a little.

Xolani stood outside Madison's dorm building, a rare hesitance gripping her. She hadn't planned to visit. Truthfully, she didn't even know which room was Madison's until a mutual acquaintance casually mentioned it earlier in the day. But something compelled her to come anyway.

Her fingers fumbled with her phone, debating if she should text first.

"Alright," Xolani muttered to herself, blowing out a shaky breath. She put the hoodie on and adjusted the hoodie so it draped over her shoulder to hide the tattoo on her collarbone, a semi-colon inked in a delicate black. A reminder of survival, of the moments she nearly didn't make it through.

With one final inhale, she headed for the door, heart pounding harder with each step.

When Madison heard the knock on her door, she jumped slightly, tugging off her headphones. She wasn't expecting anyone. Sliding off the bed, she padded across the room and opened the door.

Xolani stood there, her hands in her pockets, a hesitant yet hopeful look on her face.

"Hey," Xolani said, her voice soft.

"Hey," Madison replied, blinking in surprise before stepping aside. "Come in."

Xolani hesitated for a second before stepping in, taking a moment to look around. "Your room's cute. Looks like you've settled in."

Madison closed the door, suddenly feeling a little self-conscious. "Yeah, I've had some time. What about you? How's your dorm?"

"It's... functional," Xolani said with a small laugh, sitting on the edge of Madison's desk chair. "Not as cozy as this."
