As the truck collided with us, everything seemed to slow right down. I felt pain in the right side of my head and shoulder as I hit the window of the passenger door. It must've been hard enough for me to lose consciousness as the next thing I knew I was hanging upside and Derek was no longer beside me. He hadn't put his seatbelt on before the truck hit us. I kept phazing in and out of consciousness. I could feel my shoulder was in a lot of pain. I somehow managed to pull myself from the wreck. I looked around the road and saw Derek laying unconscious on his front. I didn't manage to get very far before I collapsed to the ground. the next thing I knew I was in the back of an ambulance, being brought round by a paramedic.

Matthew-You're awake... What's your name?

Shell(pained)- Michelle...

Matthew- okay, Do you know what day it is?

Shell- Thursday... where's Derek?

Matthew- Derek? do you mean the guy who was with you?

Shell- mhmm

Matthew- he is in the other Aid car. we are taking you both to hospital.

The paramedic then gave me a shot of morphine, which knocked me out until i was being awoken by a small familiar voice.

Winnie- Shell?

Shell(waking up)- mmm

Winnie- Shell? Please be okay. I can feel your heartbeat, so i know you're not dead.

Shell(croaky)- winnie?

Winnie- you're okay. And you can talk. Derek cant.

Shell- what? Where is he. Can you take me to him?

Winnie- he's over there. You cant move, you have a tube in your arm.

Shell(pulling out the IV)- fuck that... maybe don't repeat that... take me to Derek.

Winnie- okay, this way...

I carefully got out of the bed and followed Winnie over to Derek. It was a bit of a struggle and my head kept spinning, but i was determined. When we entered the curtain, i was in shock at the state of him. He was in a terrible way.

Shell- oh my god Shep. Hey... can you talk to me... shit.

Winnie- he's still alive, i can feel his heartbeat.

Shell- that's good Winnie... im gonna look at his chart, okay. Keep talking to him.

I picked up his chart and scanned through what they had reported was wrong with him. That's when i spotted they hadn't done a head CT. What the fuck! I was then brought out of my reading by somebody entering the curtain.

Paul- what do you think you are doing?

Shell- why haven't you ordered a head CT?

Paul- you shouldn't be in here.

Shell- again, why haven't you ordered a head CT. It says here you want to take him straight to the OR for abdominal bleeding. Obviously he has a head lac. He needs a CT now!

Paul- i'm sorry why are you are telling me how to do my job.

Shell- because obviously I'm a better doctor than you are. He has a head lac, he could be bleeding in his brain, right now and your more concerned that he has internal bleeding that clearly can wait as he is stable.

Paul- i...i... but. Who are you?

Shell- i'm Dr Michelle Grey, Neurosurgeon at Grey-sloan memorial Hospital, and that there is Dr Derek Shepherd. Now, get him a head CT and call your god damn neurosurgeon.
