A/N: Hello everyone, sorry it's been a bit. Please enjoy the next chapter of 8 Days, 8 Letters.
Trigger warnings: mentions of a panic attack and blood
Present Day: May 1900
Spot's POV
I was almost done with selling for the day, think about my double date with Jaime. Ace and her insisted we do one since it had been a long time since we hung out just the four of us.
Suddenly I heard a familiar muttering from behind me.
"Great, just great. This asshole wants me to help him. He's the reason my son is gone," a woman muttered.
I took a turn, holding my papers high when I caught a glimpse of the woman.
She had brown hair in a loose bun and ocean blue eyes.
I ducked into an alleyway and let the woman pass by, hoping she didn't see me.
When she finally passed, heavy sigh escaped and felt my shoulders drop down from my ears. I let my head rest against the wall and closed my eyes.
I can't let her find me. Not yet.
I decided to walk back the way I came, hoping to sell the remaining papes before I reached the lodge house.
I wish I could have stopped. Maybe I would've hugged her or at least talked to her. Maybe I would tell her everything from becoming a newsies to rising into "royalty" all the way into getting with the love of my life.
Maybe Books could actually meet her in a casual way and not a "hey the kid you were with looked like my missing son" way.
We could actually be a normal family, whatever that means. I don't care if it's boring, I still want it. But thanks to my father we couldn't. I know that leaving Ireland was hard for them, especially since many people here were hostile to my people. But it doesn't give him the right to do what he did.
I miss my mother, but it's for the best. I'm better off without it right? Besides she's safer if I'm not there right?
Time Skip: 3 Hours Later
I finished getting ready for my date and ended up just staring at my ceiling, thinking about everything and nothing.
I was interrupted by a light knock on the door.
"Come in."
The door opened revealing Books's smile. I hoped out of bed and tried to quickly fix myself.
She laughed- gosh that laugh.
"Hey. Are you's ready?" she giggled.
"As I'll ever be."
I took her arm and closed the door.
"Is it too late to get out of this and just hide in the fire escape," I joked (well halfway).
Don't blame a guy for not wanting to be glared at by Mac, it's way worse than Jack's.
"Come on, it'll be fun," she said.
I threw my head back and groaned. "You's say that."
"Because I's know it will be. Now come on, we're probably late and we're basically already at the place."
She gave me a kiss on the cheek and walked faster, pulling me forward.
Her face lit up more when she saw Ace and Mac waiting for us on the dock.
"Hi Ace! Hi Mac!" She grinned, walking up to greet them with a tight hug.
Mac usually didn't like hugs or affection, but he always took it from her and Ace without complaint.
