A/N: Hi everyone! Please enjoy this short chapter of 8 Days, 8 Letters.
Flashback: July 1892
This takes place a few minutes after Jaime and Spot agree to be Brookies.
Jaime's POV
After agreeing to become newsies, Mac and Ace brought us to a dock where there were a lot more Brookies let's just say.
"Hey, Ace, Mac, who are the new kids?" a boy behind us yelled.
I recognized that voice. It was Skittery's; and if that was Skittery then the whole Queens gang's got to be here. Crap.
"Get out Queens," Mac scowled.
"Oh we'll leave as soon as you's tell us what the Kelly goil's doin' here," Malik asked.
He turned towards me, smirking.
"All alone huh?" he taunted. "Where's yer brother toots?"
Spot stepped in front of me.
"None of yer business. I'd suggest you's back off before I's throw you into the harbor," Spot threatened.
Malik and the other Queens kids laughed. Skittery stepped up, staying slightly behind Malik. Bumlets and Specs still stood behind them
"Got a new guard dog there, Kelly?" he laughed. "I'd like to see you's try, kid."
"Wait Kelly? As in the kid who's been on the run ever since he stole that loaf of bread?" Bumlets asked.
"And as in the one who's sista got caught up in the mess and the two of them beat us in a 2 v 4 fight," Specs informed, rolling his eyes. "But yeah the Kelly who's been on the run for stealing a loaf of bread."
I couldn't stand them talking about Jack like some delinquent. Snyder made him leave and Queens made our miserable lives hell. I took the sling shot sticking out of Mac's pocket and loaded it with a small stone. I pulled back and fired, hitting Malik square in the forehead, knocking him off the dock and into the harbor like David and Goliath.
Ace, Spot, and Mac began laughing at him falling into the harbor.
Skittery, Bumlets, and Specs scrambled to pull him out.
"Watch your back, Kelly," he scowled, swiping the water off his face. "I ain't hesitant to jump a goil, even if she's only eight."
"And I's ain't hesitant to throw you all the way to Harlem," I smirked.
"I's suggest you's go Malik," Ace said, stepping between us.
"Whatever," he said rolling his eyes. "Let's go."
Malik pushed between Bumlets and Specs, who along with Skittery fearfully followed. I hope nothing too horrible happens to them. Malik can be rather cruel, especially when things don't go his way.
As much as I hate the Queens kids, I kinda feel bad for them.
"Nice aim kid," Mac smiled, patting me on the back before dropping his smile into a more intimidating look. "Now give me back my slingshot."
He stuck his hand out and motioned for me to put the slingshot in his hand.
"Here ya go, ya grump," I laughed, placing it back in his hand.
Ace, Spot, and the Brookies began to laugh.
"Wanna go kid," he scowled, putting the slingshot back in his belt loop.
"Yeah. Let's go."
Ace stepped between us.
"No one's fightin' anyone," he said, sternly. "Now everyone, bed. We've got work in the morning."
Mac and I rolled our eyes before obliging.
Spot wrapped his arm around my shoulders while we followed Ace, Mac, and the Brookies to the lodge house.
Mac assigned us each a bunk and we fell asleep in our clothes.
I hope tomorrow goes well.
