A little history on beast and sentinels...

The Solaris sentinels were of several types. There were small ones that were of the cat type, bird type and that were probably used for reconnaissance. There were also larger dog-type ones, similar to Pooh, Nyx's dog sentinel.

The third type was man-like, who attacked the camp of the gladiators. Of these there were three types, those with a bronze helmet they were the most numerous and were probably the serial model, those with silver which were rarer and there were a few with gold which were probably their commanders.

Their mechanisms are similar to watch , but there are differences.

" It will take a little time to study them," said the watchmaker. "I  bet they won't be able to move without the crystals..."

"Yes," Shadow-cat shook her head. "We'll get you enough crystals of the different types as well."

"I have an idea... " said the clockmaker, "not now- but further... to make a big one out of a few sentinels... something like a giant... but one like that would need a very powerful crystal to power it..."

"Don't forget later on, when you have time to look at the bird-rock.

If you can fix it, it'll be great... I've got a few ideas we can use it for...", added Mer-mer

"For example?"

"We could tie a basket under it and carry the army where it's impassable... or carry supplies for the army... Also during battle, we could put archers inside and shower the enemy army with arrows..."

"That's a great idea," Shadow-cat said.

"In the meantime, here's one of Solaris's mech birds. see if we can't make a few copies and use them to link between us. These pigeons take a long time, besides they fall prey to the hawks. Also"- Mer- Mer, turned to his friends," if any of you have any ideas, tell me..."

"Yes, I do, "said the clockmaker. "You're gonna need a lot of mechanical power when you're pulling the war-carts with food and weapons. I intend to make some mechanical horses. They won't be fast, but they'll be strong and durable..."

"How long will it take you?"

"At least a few months, I only have two hands."

'I have an idea," Mer-Mer said." Why don't I send you some of the more skilled gladiators. On the one hand they'll help you, on the other you'll teach them mechanisms and mechanic's. I can also send you an artist and a scribe. Make sketches of the mechanisms and describe them in a book. Then others can read and learn."

"This is really wonderful...",said the watchmaker. "For I no longer see and..."

"When you said you don't see...we found something special in the war field. Some new prototype sentinel that used solar energy with some special lenses to convert it. Solaris didn't get a chance to finish it off and wasn't able to use it against us, but I have a feeling it's going to be a very powerful weapon."

The watchmaker asked excitedly where he was. He could work on the mech for hours and not think to eat. Like a little kid he couldn't wait for his new toy.

"Where is it?"

"In a metal cart at the camp of the gladiators. I'll order them to bring her. The interesting thing was that one of those glass lenses had fallen off... and the curious thing was that if you looked at it from one side it increased the size of what you were looking at... But if you turned it back."

Impatience laced Shadow-cat's voice as she asked, "Okay, what's the deal?"

"The shrinking device reduces the size of objects and somehow concentrates solar energy into one point. I even managed to light a straw with it."
