Funny Way to End the Night

It started like any other night. Around 10 PM, she said, "Good night, I love you," like she always does, and I said it back. But, of course, neither of us really went to sleep. We ended up scrolling through Reels and TikTok, laughing at videos, showing each other the funniest ones, and commenting, "Uy, same ta ani." It's this weird little ritual we both love but never admit is part of our nightly routine.

By 11 PM, she got a bit quiet, and I had to check. "Uy, wala pa ka nag-good night ha? Ayaw tulog-tulog dira, wala pa nag-good night!" She laughed and said it again. So, of course, I said it back, rolling my eyes because really, why do we keep doing this? But it's funny, so I let it slide.

Then, past midnight, she went quiet again, this time really looking like she was about to doze off. "Huuuuy, pag-good night sa ba!" I said, poking her just to be sure. She turned to me, half-annoyed but still amused, and said, "Ganiha pa ta sigeg good night ba." And honestly? She wasn't wrong. We probably said "good night, I love you" three or four times already, but somehow, it never feels like enough.

I think this is just a preview of what's to come as we get older. We'll probably keep forgetting things—like whether we've already said good night—but maybe that's okay. At least we're forgetting something worth repeating.
