Author's pov:

When Shivani left Abhimanyu's study, she headed straight to the kitchen. Finding it empty, she gripped the edge of the kitchen slab, her fingers tightening around it.

She took a deep breath, but the tears betrayed her, slipping down her cheeks.

"I shouldn't have entered without knocking... It was my mistake," she thought, guilt evident in her eyes.

It was a small thing, yet she couldn't shake off the hurt. She had never been able to handle harsh words, and now especially from Abhimanyu. She never imagined he would speak to her like that too, in front of all..

Meanwhile, Preeti made her way to the kitchen to execute her evil plan.. she looked at Shivani whose back is facing her..

"Tch, tch... so bad, Shivani. Wait, are you crying?" Preeti's voice dripped with fake concern, though she was secretly relishing Shivani's distress.

Startled by Preeti's sudden intrusion, Shivani quickly wiped her tears and turned away.

"What are you talking about? I'm not crying. And why would you even think that?" she asked, pretending to be busy with her work.

Preeti raised an eyebrow, feigning innocence. "Oh, my mistake then. It's good you're not crying. I just assumed... since I heard Abhimanyu yelling at you."

She paused for effect, watching Shivani's reaction before continuing, "Well, it's a relief if you're not upset over such a small thing. But tell me, doesn't it bother you? Being left out of the family discussion?"

Shivani frowned, confused by Preeti's words. Sensing her hesitation, Preeti leaned in, her voice laced with deceitful sympathy.

"Wait... you don't know?" she gasped dramatically. "Oh, I thought you were part of this family. But it seems they don't even consider you one. Maybe that's why you weren't allowed to join them."

She casually reached for an apple, letting her words sink in before adding, "Look at Anjali Aunty, she was excluded because she went out. And me? Well, obviously, I'm just a guest. But you..."

Preeti turned to Shivani, whose face was now clouded with doubt. Smirking inwardly, she knew her plan was working-Shivani was falling right into her trap.

"You're Abhimanyu's wife, the daughter-in-law of this house. And yet, they left you out. Why? Maybe because they never truly considered you part of their family."

Planting that seed of insecurity, Preeti dusted off her hands and straightened up.

"Anyway, I have things to do. I'll see you later."

With that, she walked away, leaving Shivani alone.. lost in a storm of doubt and questions about her place in the family.

After Preeti left, Shivani sat there, her mind a whirlwind of unsettling thoughts. Preeti's words echoed in her head, each one slicing deeper than the last.

Her gaze was blank, fixed on nothing in particular, as if searching for answers in the emptiness. Tears rolled down her cheeks silently, unnoticed even by herself, blurring her vision but not her pain. The ache in her heart slowly crept up to her head, intensifying into a throbbing headache that made it hard to think clearly.

She pressed her fingers against her temples, trying to steady her racing mind, but the doubt had already taken root.

"Am I really not part of this family? Why me.." The questions circled endlessly, each one heavier than the last.
