Shivani's Pov..
Life has always made me feel like I'm undeserving of love. It took my mother from me, and then my father, not just physically, but emotionally. Instead of the warmth I longed for, I saw only hatred in his eyes.
And just when I had accepted the absence of love as my fate, I found a new family, one that embraced me, made me feel seen, and showered me with the affection I never thought I'd receive.
Then came Abhimanyu. When he confessed that he loves me, I felt like my world shifted. For the first time, I truly understood what love could feel like.
Yes, he loves me, and I love him too. But even in love, something vital is missing.. Trust.
Love without trust is like a house built on sand. No matter how beautiful it is, it will collapse before it can ever stand firm.
No matter how deep your love runs, if trust doesn't exist between two hearts, love cannot stand. It crumbles even before it fully takes shape.
I'm giving it my all. I'm trying, truly. But it feels like everything falls apart at the slightest slip. I'm scared, scared of losing him. He had hurt me before, more than once, and still... I forgave him, because my love for him is real.
But I don't understand his side. I don't want to assume or judge him based on what I feel. I just want to know why. Why doesn't he trust me? What is holding him back?
My thoughts were interrupted as Adhi approached.
" Bhabhi, come, everything is ready. Bhai went to bring Manu.." he said warmly.
I gave a small nod and quietly stepped away from the garden, heading inside.
Something didn't feel right.
There was a strange heaviness in my chest, as if my heart was whispering that something was about to happen. I pushed the thoughts aside and followed Adhi inside.
As we walked, we exchanged a few words about the party preparations, nothing deep, just the usual chatter.
When we stepped into the house, Maa signaled us to come to the side. I didn't understand at first, but Adhi and I quietly moved toward the corner where the rest of the family stood.
And then, everything went dark.
"What happened? Why did the power go out?" I asked while turning to Adhi.
"No, Bhabhi. It's a surprise," he said with a smile. "Wait a moment.
The lights will turn on automatically."I nodded slowly, trusting his words. Just then, the lights flashed back on and with a loud pop..
Party poppers burst into the air.
Manu in Abhimanyu's arms and behind them Vaidehi and Preeti..
Laughter, smiles, and warmth filled the room. Manu's eyes sparkled with joy. She looked thrilled, completely enchanted by the surprise.
Manu threw her arms around him, and kissed his cheek, full of pure, innocent love.
And just like that, my past came rushing back.. an uninvited storm of memories.
I hated how they always found their way in, how my mind never missed a chance to hurt my heart.
I had once dreamt of surprise parties, of being celebrated, just like Aparna and Pranav were. But my dreams remained just dreams.
