Author's pov:
After spending almost the entire day in his study, Abhimanyu finally stepped out and walked straight into their room. Shivani was sitting on the sofa, completely absorbed in a book, her gaze fixed on the pages, oblivious to his arrival.
Without disturbing her, he headed to the washroom and changed into fresh clothes. When he came out, he noticed that Shivani hadn't moved from her spot, still engrossed in her book.
A wave of restlessness settled in his chest. He wanted to go to her, to apologize for what had happened that morning, but he hoped she would initiate the conversation first. However, her silence only deepened his unease.
Just as he took a step toward her, his phone rang. The sudden sound broke the silence, and Shivani finally looked up, her eyes briefly meeting his before shifting away.
Without a word, he answered the call and walked out onto the balcony. The conversation lasted nearly half an hour, and by the time he returned to the room, she was gone.
Frowning, he glanced at the clock-it was 7 PM. His gaze swept the room before he moved toward the dining area, hoping to find her there.
As expected, she was at the dining table, now dressed in a soft pink cotton saree..different from the outfit she had been wearing earlier. Maybe she took a bath.. he wondered.
He pulled out his chair and sat down. Across the table, Preeti smirked, sensing the tension between them, while Anjali shot Shivani a cold glare.
Anjali despised her, especially after the recent turmoil in the family. She loathed the fact that Shivani still had a place at the table, protected by Abhimanyu and her brothers. But she knew better than to challenge Abhimanyu's anger, so she held her tongue.
Shivani quietly served Abhimanyu without sparing him a single glance. But he couldn't stop watching her. Every small movement, every silent gesture.. he noticed it all.
He knew why she was distant. He shouldn't have yelled at her, especially in front of everyone. But fear had gripped him that morning-fear that she might uncover the secrets he had buried for years, the pain he carried alone.
He wanted to trust her, to lean on her, to find solace in her presence. But trust meant vulnerability, and he refused to be weak. He couldn't bear to see pity in her eyes. Yet, her cold indifference stung more than anything.
After serving him, Shivani quietly sat beside him, eating her food without a word. Then, suddenly, she choked. She coughed, reaching for the water, but before she could grab the glass, Abhimanyu was already handing it to her.
Without resistance, she drank from his hands while he gently rubbed her back. The warmth of his touch soothed her, but as soon as she realized it, she moved his hand away.
"I'm okay now," she muttered, still not looking at him.
He nodded, saying nothing, and continued eating.
After dinner, the men stepped out to the lawn for a conversation while Shivani, Guari, Radhika, and Vaidehi stayed in the kitchen, tidying up and preparing for the next day. Meanwhile, Adhi and Arha joined the men outside.
Once the kitchen was sorted, the women carried trays of dessert to the lawn. Shivani had made Gulab Jamun. But the moment she stepped outside, her heart skipped a beat-and anger surged within her.
