Author's pov:
As Shivani clutched Arjun tightly in her arms, a wave of peace washed over her. For a terrifying second she had thought her world had ended, but he was safe. Her trembling lips whispered a soft prayer of thanks.
And then, a familiar voice broke the moment.
"Shivani..."
She turned, startled.
It was Jutin. He was standing a few steps away, a gentle smile on his face. Relief flickered in his eyes though behind it, something deeper lingered.
" Thank you... for saving Arjun's life," Shivani said sincerely, her voice still unsteady.
Jutin shook his head. "You guys here?"
"Yes... we came for a walk," Shivani replied softly.
He studied her for a moment, noticing the faint tremble in her fingers as she stroked Arjun's hair. His chest tightened.
"Hey... are you okay?" he asked, his tone tender.
Shivani managed a small smile. "Yes, I'm good. Okay... I think we should go. And thank you again, Jutin."
"Hmm... that's okay," he said, though his heart ached at her distance. After a pause, he added, "If you don't mind... can we have a coffee? Just here, nearby."
Her eyes softened with gratitude, but her words remained careful. "No... I think we have to go. Charu is alone at home, and it's getting dark."
Jutin nodded slowly. He should've expected it. Still, he tried one last time. "At least let me drop you?"
"No, that's okay Jutin, We just wanted some fresh air, and our house is close to the market. But... thank you for asking.."
Her voice was polite, final. She didn't want to give him hope where there wasn't any.
Jutin understood. He smiled faintly, hiding his disappointment. "Alright. Bye then."
Shivani gave a nod and walked away with Arjun, her pace quick but steady.
...
What she didn't know was that another pair of eyes had been watching.
In the crowd, someone had seen Arjun break away, had seen the balloon drift, and had seen the little boy dash towards danger.
His heart had leapt to his throat, and his instinct had been to run... But Jutin got there first.
And when he saw Shivani rush forward, fall to her knees, and pull Arjun into her arms...
His world stopped.
Shivani. His bhabhi..
It was really her. The woman his brother had been searching for, grieving for, living for.
Adhi froze where he stood, his mind spinning. For a second, he thought he was imagining it. But no, it was her. The face his brother whispered about even in silence. The woman whose absence had hollowed Abhimanyu's life.
He wanted to push through the crowd, call out to her. But just as he stepped forward, his phone buzzed sharply in his pocket.
Startled, he glanced at the screen. Just for a fraction of a second.
And when his eyes lifted again...she was gone.
Panic struck him. He hurried to the spot where she had been standing, looked left and right, scanning the faces, turning in circles. Nothing.
