Author's pov :
After speaking with Amith, Abhimanyu made his way back to his room, his thoughts lingering around everything he had heard and felt. As he entered quietly, his eyes fell on Shivani lying on the bed, her back facing him.
Assuming she had already fallen asleep, he moved softly, not wanting to disturb her, and walked into the washroom to freshen up.
Moments later, he got dressed up in his nightwear, He lay on his side, staring up at the ceiling, the dim light casting soft shadows across the room. His eyes were closed, but sleep refused to come-his heart still heavy with the events of the day.
Shivani, on the other side, was wide awake.
She wasn't asleep. She hadn't even tried.
She had been waiting for him, not just physically, but emotionally. Waiting for the warmth of his hand reaching out.
The comfort of his voice whispering her name. The gentle reassurance that she wasn't alone.
But nothing came.
Still facing away, she fought the sting in her eyes. A part of her longed to turn, to talk to him, to pour out everything she had buried inside.
The pain from Anjali's words, the fear of being misunderstood, the ache of wanting to feel safe, with him.
And yet, hesitation held her back.
Things were changing between them-she could feel it. Slowly, gently, their bond was growing, but it still had cracks.
Cracks made of silence and unsaid feelings.
She finally turned toward him, slowly, her eyes finding his profile. He seemed calm, but she knew he wasn't asleep. The small tension in his brow, the way his breathing wasn't quite steady, she could tell.
Just say something, her heart pleaded. Tell him. Ask him. Hold him.
But instead, she whispered softly, barely audible, "Abhi..."
He opened his eyes instantly and turned to her.
Their eyes met in the silence. No words were exchanged for a long second. Just a look.. full of questions, longing, and a need for closeness.
" Had your dinner? " She asked him.
He just hummed as his mind is not clear.
She expected the same question from him but he didn't asked her and she kept looking at him hopefully.
Abhimanyu turned toward her, his eyes serious, no longer clouded but piercing. " Shivani... did you know Manu isn't feeling well?"
Shivani blinked, a little surprised. " No... this morning only I got to know from Adhi. Why? Did something happen?"
Instead of answering, he asked again, "Did you visit Manu the night before yesterday?"
"Yes... but-"
"Then how could you not know she wasn't okay?" His voice was still low, but sharp now. "You're a child psychologist, Shivani. You of all people should've seen something... felt something. Were you pretending this whole time?"
Her breath caught. "Abhi..."
"Tell me the truth," he said, sitting up now. "Did you know and still chose not to tell me? Why? Are you uncomfortable around my sister and her daughter? Is that why?"
