Author's pov:
Abhimanyu rushed Gowtham into the emergency ward. The smell of antiseptic filled the air, the faint hum of machines echoing in the background. As Gowtham lay on the narrow bed, the duty doctor quickly examined him, inserted an IV, and adjusted the drip.
Abhimanyu stood close, his eyes scanning the line of the fluid, ensuring everything was fine. He wasn't just a passerby anymore, his presence had turned into a quiet responsibility.
Gowtham, weak and pale, slowly opened his eyes. His gaze lingered on this stranger who had not only saved him but stayed by his side even now. Gratitude welled up in his chest, but before he could say anything, Abhimanyu's phone buzzed.
Stepping towards the window, Abhimanyu answered.
It was Adhi and Dheeraj. They were standing at the marketplace where Abhimanyu had asked them to come earlier. But finding no trace of him there, they had grown worried." Bhai, did you find bhabhi? " Adhi's voice carried both concern and impatience.
Abhimanyu kept his tone calm, though his eyes flickered back to the weak figure on the bed.
" I'm at the hospital. There was an accident... I'll explain everything later. Just stay there. I'll come."
With that, he cut the call and slipped the phone back into his pocket. Turning, he saw Gowtham again... his head tilted to the side, eyes closed, already slipping into a light sleep as the medication took effect.
For a long moment, Abhimanyu stood there silently, watching the steady drip of the IV and the slow rise and fall of Gowtham's chest.
.
.It had been two hours since Gowtham was admitted, and Abhimanyu hadn't left his side even for a second. He stood silently near the bed, his sharp eyes occasionally moving to the IV, then back to Gowtham's face. When the doctor reassured him there was nothing much to worry about, he finally allowed himself to breathe a little.
But as he walked back after speaking to her, a sudden wave of dizziness hit him. His vision blurred, steps faltered, and before his tall frame could crash to the floor, a pair of delicate hands steadied him.
The doctor.
For a second, their eyes locked. She felt her heartbeat stutter.. something about the man's aura, the quiet storm in his eyes, the strength in his jawline.
Abhimanyu straightened quickly, taking a step back to compose himself.
"Hey... are you okay?" she asked softly, her voice filled with both concern and something unexplainable.
"I'm good. Thank you," he replied curtly, shifting his gaze away, already checking on Gowtham, who was now awake.
"Finally," Abhimanyu said, relief tugging at his voice. "You gained consciousness. I think I should leave now. Please call someone from your home."
"First... thanks, brother," Gowtham said weakly, offering a faint smile.
The young lady doctor smiled too, stepping closer to adjust Gowtham's pillow as he tried to sit up.
Though his condition wasn't as bad as he acted, Gowtham being Gowtham... couldn't resist adding a little drama.
"Hey Maya... how are my reports?" he asked in a teasing tone.
Abhimanyu turned sharply, confusion flashing across his face. "You both know each other?"
"Yes..." Gowtham replied, his lips curling. "She's Charu's I mean my wife's cousin. Maya."
