"Seohyun?"
Seohyun’s heart skipped a beat as Jaemin’s voice crackled through her earpiece, low and urgent. “Are you alright? I saw you go into that room... and Dejun followed right after.”
She exhaled slowly, trying to steady her racing pulse. “I’m fine,” she whispered, keeping her voice low as she adjusted her dress. “He’s been taken care of. He won’t be a problem for now.”
There was a pause before Jaemin responded, relief evident in his voice. “Good. I was worried for a second.”
“Focus on the mission,” Seohyun chided softly, her lips curving into a faint smile. “I’ll be out soon.”
She glanced back at the unconscious body of Dejun sprawled across the plush carpet, his figure hidden behind the heavy curtains. Given the amount of blows he's received, he was bound to be out for the night, fetching them enough time to escape.
She took a deep breath, composing herself before stepping out into the hallway. The music from the ballroom thrummed through the walls, a sharp contrast to the tense silence she’d just left behind.
Fixing her posture, she walked briskly down the hall, her heels clicking against the polished marble floor. But as she neared the entrance to the grand ballroom, a strange stillness washed over her.
The lively chatter and laughter had stopped.
Her eyes narrowed as she stepped into the vast room, her gaze sweeping over the sea of stunned faces. People stood frozen, their eyes wide with fear, some whispering frantically behind gloved hands.
And then she saw it.
A man stood in the center of the ballroom, his grip tight around Ahn Jiyul’s neck, his arm coiled around her like a serpent. A gun was pressed to her temple, its metallic sheen glinting under the chandelier’s light. Jiyul’s eyes were wide, her face pale, and her body was rigid with terror.
Seohyun’s breath caught in her throat.
Where is Haechan?
Her eyes scanned the room quickly, searching for him. But he was nowhere to be found. Her heart thudded, a cold dread curling in her chest.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” the man’s voice boomed, laced with cruel amusement. “I’m afraid tonight’s entertainment just got a little more… exciting.”
Who is he??
Jiyul whimpered, her hands gripping his arm in a futile attempt to break free. Her terrified gaze flicked across the room, pleading for help. But no one moved.
Seohyun’s fists clenched at her sides, her mind racing. How did this happen? And where the hell was Haechan?
The man tightened his hold, his gun pressing harder against Jiyul’s head. “No one moves,” he warned, his voice deadly calm. “Unless you want to see her brains splattered on the floor.”
