The moonlight slipped through the thin curtains of Seohyun's room, casting a cold, pale glow over the scattered notebooks, old mission files, and a half-drunk glass of water on her desk. She sat on the edge of her bed, one leg tucked beneath her, absently twisting a loose thread on her hoodie.
The silence of the night pressed in on her, heavy and relentless. Yet her thoughts were far louder, circling like predators.
Lee Sangyeon.
She couldn't stop the name from echoing in her mind, no matter how hard she tried. The realization had hit her hours ago, downstairs, and now the weight of it suffocated her in the quiet.
The leader of Azure Blaze was here, in this very house. The man she'd spent years hunting-living and breathing under the same roof as her.
Her chest tightened as the old ache resurfaced, memories clawing their way to the surface. Her father, once one of the most brilliant tacticians of Scarlet Rose, cut down before his time.
They said he was betrayed, eliminated before he could make a preemptive strike against Azure Blaze. And every whispered lead had pointed to one name: Sangyeon.
Her fists clenched in her lap. For years, she'd sworn to avenge her father. His death had become her driving force-the reason she trained in secret until her bones ached, the reason she took every dangerous mission in Azure Blaze without complaint. And now, everything she'd worked for had culminated in this moment.
But instead of satisfaction, there was only the sick churn of uncertainty.
Her mission had been to infiltrate the Azure Base, bide her time, and get close to the core of their power. But she hadn't expected to come face-to-face with Sangyeon this soon. She thought she'd have more time to prepare, to plan. Now, everything felt too fast, too sudden.
What if I mess this up?
Her gaze drifted to her phone on the nightstand. The screen was dark, but the message from M.H. still lingered in her mind.
He's closer than you think.
The cryptic message had made her blood run cold. She'd always thought of M.H. as someone enigmatic but harmless-watching from the shadows, offering obscure warnings. But this time, their words carried a weight she couldn't ignore.
Did M.H. know Sangyeon was coming? Or worse... was M.H. working for him?
The thought gnawed at her, twisting her gut with unease. She rubbed her temples, trying to push back the overwhelming flood of emotions. She needed to stay focused. Sangyeon's sudden presence might have been unexpected, but it was also a gift.
The target is in sight, Seohyun. Stay calm. Stay patient.
She ran her fingers through her hair, her pulse thrumming at the base of her skull. The plan wasn't ready, and her cover wasn't as solid as she wanted it to be. There were too many questions she still needed answers to.
