"Um... so why am I here?" Tamari asked bluntly as she walked into what was referred to as the 'S-Class Mission Briefing Room.' It was essentially just a large room with a big screen hung on a wall and a bunch of computers.

"You're going to be in my squad for an S-Class mission," Gray replied dryly, to which Tamari looked at him blankly.

"...What?" Tamari asked blanky, glancing over at Renso who was standing in front of the huge screen, "You know I'm in Class-C, right? What the hell?"

That's a fair reaction.

If Gray had just entered C-Class only a few months ago and was suddenly throwing into an S-Class mission he would've been pretty pissed too.

"I'm aware," Renso didn't elaborate.

"This is just how S-Class works," Celia sighed, the green-haired woman standing next to Gray, "I'll explain more later."

Within the S-Class Mission Briefing Room was the trio of actual S-Class recruits - Gray, Caulifla, and Kale - along with the S-Class instructor, Renso. But that was where the actual 'S-Class' members ended. Celia was standing next to Gray, the woman with her usual blank expression, and both Asia and Tamari had just walked through the door into the room.

It turned out that Renso didn't actually have a complete filled-out list with all the members that would be in Gray's squad for the mission, as he had received a rather ominous 'Don't send the recruit Gray on a mission yet. King Vegeta will choose his team personally' message the day Gray had been promoted to S-Class. As a result, the only people he was certain would be sent with him were Celia, Tamari, and Asia - as they had been with him during his F-Class mission, during which he had been able to choose his team.

For the moment they were the only three who were in the briefing room, but Gray was mostly certain that they wouldn't be the only ones of his friends sent with him. Renso had explained that his squad would have between 10 to 20 members, meaning that there would be at least seven more that King Vegeta handpicked. Gray suspected that list would at least include Ochaco, Raphtalia, Saeko, and Asuna, though there would likely be more as well.

Maybe Ken's 'brothers?'

Caulifla and Kale didn't count, as they were also S-Class recruits. They were only allowed to go on the mission with him because of the co-mission rule that was in place. It was actually working in Gray's favor here, as he didn't particularly care about the mission points, so he was fine just giving them to Caulifla or Kale. He was rather glad they were going with them, as they'd be given their own squads too, bringing the total count of Saiyans going on the mission anywhere from 30 to 60.

I have no reason to try and graduate S-Class anyway.

He had no intention of taking on more S-Class missions after this and wouldn't have even taken on this one if he hadn't been forced to. S-Class was the perfect place to be right now, as he was able to spend pretty much all day every day training. He could train against other strong recruits, of which so far he had only met Caulifla and Kale, to fulfill his body's desire for good fights without actually being in danger of dying. Graduating and becoming a squad leader would give him more chances for life-or-death battles, which his body certainly viewed as appealing, but this was the better option at the moment.

The other S-Class recruits were all on missions at the moment, though Gray wasn't actually sure how many there were. When he had asked Caulifla, she had given him a very wise 'I don't know? A couple?' Celia had given a more concrete answer of around ten.
