"A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day!" Aragorn's voice echoed loudly over the group of soldiers gathered at the gates. Avadis stood close to Gandalf, listening to the hideous cries of orcs and other foul creatures that sounded from behind the gates. Outnumbered for sure, and then some.

"An hour of wolves and shattered shields when the age of men comes crashing down, but it is not this day!" His voice boomed and bounced from the cliff edges and stone walls. Avadis watched him ride along the front line of his men, sword lifted high. Without her even noticing, tears began to form in the corners of her eyes while even in the midst of fear and death a smile grew on her face as she watched her friend come into the person he was destined to be for so long.

"This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand! Men of the West!"

Behind them the soldiers cried out, throwing their weapons high into the air. Avadis leaned closer to Gandalf, tugging on the end of his sleeve. "Hmm?" He mumbled, looking down at her.

"I didn't get a chance to say thank you" she whispered into his ear. "For everything."

Gandalf sighed and shook his head slightly, reaching down to squeeze her hand tightly, "I couldn't be prouder of who you have grown to be my child" he whispered back, a smile glimmering in his eyes. "I am only sorry we did not have more time" he turned back to gaze upon the closed gates of Mordor.

"He will make it Gandalf" Avadis comforted him, also scanning walls. "He's a hobbit."

Gandalf looked down at her and chuckled slightly, "the fate of this world depends on him being a hobbit."

"Then this world has much hope yet" she replied, looking down at Merry and Pippin to her right, clasping their small daggers that looked to be the size of swords compared to them. They had such courage and bravery for so small a creature.

They fell back into silence, only the sounds of orcs, flame and rock surrounded them as they waited. From behind her Avadis felt a shuffle of feet and turned to see Gimli squeezing his way through the crowd next to Legolas. "Never thought I'd die fighting side by side with an elf" he scoffed, leaning on the hilt of his axe.

Avadis looked at Legolas with her eyebrow raised. A smile grew on his face and he looked down at the dwarf, "How about fighting side by side with a friend?"

Gimli grunted and looked up to him with a small smile,  "Aye. I could do that."

"You boys behave yourselves now" Avadis chuckled and nudged Gimli in his side, "this is serious business."

A large boom echoed around them and Avadis swung her head quickly back to the gates with her mouth open as the large stone walls began to slowly swing open, kicking up the dirt and mud at it's feet as it went. From behind it an orange glow fell upon the company as Sauron's eye fell onto the crowds. Hordes of orcs poured out of the gates in a thick dark mob that surrounded the company on all sides. They bashed their shields and stomped their feet, the ground shaking beneath them.

I see you

Avadis yelled in surprise and without even thinking hid herself behind the shadow of Gandalf's broad shoulders, covering her ears from his voice. But after a moment she stood slowly. It was quiet in her mind. Too quiet. "I do not hear him" she whispered ahead to Gandalf infront of her. "Why" she muttered to herself.

"He is not talking to you" He muttered, his eyes facing forwards. Avadis peeked over his shoulder and gasped as she watched Aragorn standing alone, hair flying behind him, face covered by the orange light of the eye.
