Summer arrived at home from Asher's farewell party, her head a tangled mess.

Within a matter of minutes, she had changed into a comfortable loose tee and loosened her hair from the tight ponytail.

She paced about her room, struggling with her inner thoughts, trying not to believe the reality which stared at her.

She could not be in love with Grayer Miller-- she tried to convince herself. He was her best friend, for Christ's sake!

But it was the sad truth, she was in love with her best friend. As much as she hated to admit it.

She passed a hand roughly through her hair and let out a dissatisfied groan.

There was no running away from this . She'd always try denying it for some reason but now the cat was out of the bag. Everyone seemed to know about it now.

Grayer was the last person on her mind when she was going to bed and the first when she woke up these couple of weeks. She had excused it to being caused by their constant fallouts.

But that wasn't the truth.

She constantly found herself wanting to be around him, wanting to feel his arms around her. She wanted to melt into his solid embrace because he always made her feel safe. She wanted badly to feel his lips on hers once again.

Get your head out of the gutter summer!

She shook the thoughts away, laying back on her bed with a thud. She grabbed her pillow and cuddled it to her chest.

There was nothing but to face the truth now.She was telling Grayer Miller the truth about how she felt the next time they met, there was no two ways about that!

Her phone pinged with new messages and she stretched an arm out, patting the bed before pulling out her illuminated iPhone screen from beneath the covers.

Her eyes scanned across a couple of texts from their squad's group chat and another from St. Williams which caught her eye.

U home safe?

We are visiting Grayer, Wednesday, after school

U up?

Summer gnawed at her lower lip, sending a thumbs up emoji in reply to St.Williams' text. Guess she was coming up with something to say to Grayer sooner than she thought.

She groaned, muffling it with a pillow.

How on earth did you tell your best friend you were secretly in love with him too?

Summer's nerves had not settled on Wednesday. She stood, palms sweaty and feet shaking, in front of Grayer's door.

Courtney stood beside her,a bouquet of sunflowers in one hand and with the other, she gave Summer's hand a little comforting squeeze. It was like she understood everything from when Summer had started fidgeting from Friday evening.

"It's going to be okay." She mouthed at her.

Summer nodded,"Thanks."

Chris doubled up his steps behind them, holding a box of chocolate cake they'd ordered for Grayer.

"Where's St. Williams?" Courtney enquired, looking behind Chris.

"I'm here." St. Williams owned up, closing in on them. He was casually spinning his car keys in his pinky finger. He had just parked the car and joined them.

He walked past them to the door and gave it a little rap.

There was the jingle of keys at the other end of the house before the doorknob was yanked open.
