(18+) A's Secret {Part 2}

[Y/n's PoV]

It was past midnight and I woke up from the bed when Alice sat straight up from the bed.

I could tell that she was startled. She was taking deep breaths and her gaze darted around the room to confirm where she was.

I sat up beside her and gently placed a hand on her shoulder.

“Alice? What's wrong?”

She jumped slightly from my touch as though she had totally forgotten I was there. When her gaze finally settled on me, her eyes softened in recognition.

She then exhaled deeply as her shoulders relaxed. Once the tension faded away from her body, she leaned closer to me and pressed her forehead against my shoulder as if seeking comfort.

I wrapped my arms around her.

“It's okay, my love. I'm here.”

Alice didn't say anything. She just leaned her weight against me while her hands tightly gripped onto my nightgown.

“I thought the device I tested earlier about perceiving a certain future failed, but in the end, it just seeped into my sleep like a bad dream.”

For a while, we stayed like that in silence without moving. I let her cling to me as long as she needed to. I could tell that whatever she had seen in her dream had disturbed her greatly.

Just when I thought she had calmed down, I heard her softly mumbling something against my shoulder. I couldn't make out what she was saying hence I tilted my head closer to her.

“I'm sorry.”

Her words were so quiet that I almost didn't hear it. I couldn't believe my ears. In the time we've been together, I have never heard her saying these words. 

“Sorry..?” I asked confusedly.  

Alice lifted her head to look at me. There was a hint of guilt in her eyes, which was unusual for her. 

“I'm sorry, my love.” she repeated once again.

I furrowed my brow at her. Something was off. Alice apologizing was a rare sight. She was never someone to admit her mistakes or apologize to others.

“Sorry... for what?” I asked her.

She didn't respond. Instead, she turned her gaze to the pillow and avoided eye contact with me. It was odd. The confident and bold Alice I knew was never this vulnerable, to put it mildly. It was as if something had triggered this sudden change in her. 

I reached out to lift her chin to make her look at me. “Alice, talk to me. You're scaring me.”

She only let me do as I please. Normally, she would have swatted my hand away or simply ignored me. That's what made me even more concerned.  

I studied her features more closely. The usual playful gleam in her eyes was now replaced with sadness. That sight made my heart ache.

“My love–”

“Won't you kiss me on the mouth, Y/n?” Alice suddenly asked.

“....”

Her request startled me, mainly because it was so sudden. Alice usually initiated kisses without asking first. She would just approach me and capture my lips with hers without any warning. For her to ask me outright... It was strange.

l just nodded and leaned closer to her to plant a gentle kiss on her mouth.

I expected her to deepen the kiss like she usually would, but she didn't.  She just remained still and let me press my lips against hers.
