(18+) A Surprise? - Ei

[Y/n's PoV]

I was carrying a stack of paperwork such as reports, contracts, and financial summaries from yesterday’s meetings.

I passed a few assistants who were already at their desks, sipping coffee and reviewing schedules. One of them glanced up and smiled politely.

“Morning, ma’am.”

“Good morning,” I replied with a small nod before entering the elevator and pressed the highest floor where Ei's office stood— the largest room in our corporate headquarters.

Walking down the hallway towards the office marked CEO in elegant gold lettering, I adjusted my grip to keep everything balanced.

As I approached, her secretary gave me a respectful smile but didn’t stop me since she knew better than to delay paperwork meant directly for her.

The secretary stood and opened the door for me without a word.

Inside, Ei sat at her massive mahogany desk. Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows behind her, framing her like an image of a goddess.

She was reviewing documents that were already on her side of the desk, from which I assumed that it was probably likely last night’s urgent files and hadn’t looked up yet.

Her assistant quietly took half my stack from my arms to place them neatly on Ei’s waiting tray while I approached silently.

Ei finally lifted her gaze and those sharp, purple eyes met mine.

She didn't greet me and simply reached for the top file on the stack and began flipping through it. Her expression remained unreadable as she scanned each page and signed when necessary without hesitation.

Only then did her eyes flicker up to me again with its softness at my presence before returning to work.

“Leave us.”

Does she mean me? Or the secretary? Nevertheless...

With a nod, I turned around and she spoke up again.

“Yn, do stay.”

Her voice was measured as always, though there was a subtle difference in tone when speaking to me versus others.

The secretary quickly excused herself and closed the door behind her with a soft click.

She continued signing documents without speaking for another minute... then two...

Then finally setting down her pen before leaning back in her chair.

“Come here.”

I walked over to her desk and stopped right in front of it.

Without a word, she reached out and gently took my right hand before lifting it higher and placed a soft kiss on my knuckles.

“Do you know what day it is?” She asked.

“Friday?” I feigned innocence.

Ei frowned a bit but it was enough for me to notice. She didn’t say anything, though she stood up slowly from her chair and then pulled me into a kiss without warning.

I assumed she was silently scolding my forgetfulness on the most important day of her year.

Her lips held no warmth nor sweetness. Just a quiet disappointment wrapped in a kiss.

It lasted only three seconds before she pulled back and stepped away.

She then turned around and walked towards the window with her back facing me now like a cold statue.
