"Jeongin!"
My senses froze as the voice of my pursuer echoed through the air.
He'd found me.
I turned to face him, my eyes locking onto the gun in his hand as he took slow deliberate steps closer.
"You ran away from me," he said, his voice laced with accusation. "You left me there..."
I felt trapped, with no escape in sight.
"Why is it so hard for you to understand?" He stopped in front of me, his eyes blazing with a mix of anger and desperation. "Each time I try, you reject my love... But I'm done trying, Jeongin. It's clear you love that other man more than me... So I've decided to end this charade. I won't try to make you fall for me anymore. It's futile."
He lowered the gun and dropped to one knee, a twisted smile spreading across his face.
"Instead, I'll kill you... then myself. We'll be together in death, then." The gun brushed against my jawline and under my chin, sending a chill down my spine. "If you can't love me, you might as well die with me. Right? Whatever the case may be, I'll have you to myself in the end, no matter what..."
My breath caught in my throat as fear gripped me. My heart trembled, my bottom lip quivered, and my eyes felt lost in space.
For the first time in my life, I was scared – truly scared – of death. But why? I'd often toyed with the matter of ending my life, even asking Shi-on to kill me once. Yet, now that it was happening, I didn't want it. I wanted none of this.
I wanted to live.
Shi-on leaned in, his lips brushing against mine, but I was too numb to respond.
"You ready, baby?" he whispered, the gun pressed against my forehead.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I pleaded, "D-Don't kill me, please." I sobbed out the last bit of hope I had left.
He sneered, "Do I have to remind you that you asked for this? You can't just turn back now. "
Anticipation coursed through my body, bracing for the pain of the gunshot.
This was it.
The one bullet that would finally put an end to me.
I didn't want this. I didn't want to die. Not yet. I wasn't ready. I couldn't go through with it.
'I want to live!'
Everything was over.
When the trigger was pulled, the loud sound rung in my ears.
…
My soul shifted.
......
... But there was no pain.
…
It never came. Instead, I heard the sound of a thud.
I opened my eyes, and Shi-on's lifeless body had crumpled to the ground. There, Chan and Seungmin Hyeong stood a few feet away, guns still clutched in their hands, their faces battered but relieved.
"Chan..." I stumbled to my feet, wincing in pain as my twisted ankle protested.
Chan and Seungmin rushed to my side, concern etched on their faces.
"Jeongin, are you alright?" Chan asked, his voice laced with panic. I wrapped my arms around his neck, tears streaming down my face as he pulled me close. "You're safe now. It's alright," he whispered, his words a soothing balm to my frazzled nerves.
