« Sorry for the lengthiest chapter.»
He cupped her, with tears rolling down his face, "Thank God, I finally asked you and you opened up to me.
That's it?"
"What?" Her voice was calm as the night sky that was above them, but as firm as the sound of the waves that were hitting the shore.
"Since you mentioned that you want to hit me, I am asking if you want to go with that as well."
She nudged him off, "Don't try to act that nice."
"I ain't. I am delighted that you finally shared your thoughts about me. Had I not asked you, I would never have felt this relieved."
"Parthiv-"
"Honestly, how are you feeling? Not everyone gets such a privilege to express how they feel in front of those who hurt them."
With a deep sigh, she replied, "Better."
"So, did you leave with any bit of regret or anger? You can still try again."
"I mean, why are you asking like we are in the middle of a-"
"Middle of what?"
"Forget about it. Now your turn."
"For what?"
"You'd better be serious at this time, Parthiv. Answer me, honestly, I don't know if you share with anyone or fix yourself. But I want to know what's going on in your mind? In the past and present. Since I am done with these double games."
"You know, Deepu, I've never faced this uneasiness in my heart, since it's been more than a decade since I opened my feelings. When someone hits my sore patches, I act like nothing happened or justify my actions. You were right, I never understood how to understand from a woman's perspective. Even my mom was there, she taught me how to be a gentleman, yet I became in a way that they should feel guilty for giving birth to me.
After this accident, even after taking therapies, I still feel the tightness in my chest when you describe how badly you were affected by me. Guess I need to take more. I am not denying that whatever you thought about me was true to some extent, but I never had the intention of continuing to like that. I can say everything that happened around me, and the instances that influenced me to be like this. But even after saying, Can you still trust me? Can you give me a chance to explain what my life used to be like, before and after I met you?"
"Promise me that you are gonna tell the truth no matter what, and I will try to believe what happened to you. But it has to be you. About you. The real you. Without any filters, without blaming anyone, or without justifying your actions, if you talk about your life in a realistic and raw way, I am okay to give you a chance. This time, nothing should be hidden from your side."
"I swear."
"Go ahead."
"You told me that your life was changed after I met you. But my life has taken a U-turn after I met you, it turned to the side where I was supposed to belong, from where I initially came from, leaving every toxic trait that I adapted in the mid journey.
This started before my grandfather passed, and my dad was expanding his business, and he hadn't taken the legacy by that time. I was in school, and I had this friend named Rohit with whom I used to move closely. He is the only friend I shared most of my interests with; we used to study together, play together, and he resembles all-you-need-is-one-friend-in-your-life. He always asks me about myself, my interests, hobbies, and dreams, and he used to listen, which is rare when it comes to my life. He answered me the same questions he asked, but being kids, I never knew that people lie that everything is fine, if it wasn't.
