Deepthi's life has undergone significant changes over the past ten days. She was being shifted to Parthiv's family friend's hospital to increase her privacy and security, and took all the precautions he needed to take. No one knew this except the three families, and he urged Kartheeka not to reveal it to Vaishnavi and Vikas, and to limit their visits temporarily. She was undergoing consecutive surgeries, and everything went well for the next 3 weeks.
P: "Uncle, this is the third time you have been hospitalized in these eight weeks. If this continues, will you be able to see her, or can she see you without any guilt?"
R: "I seriously couldn't see my daughter like this anymore. It feels like she is recovering, but her pain is increasing after every surgery. Last week, they inserted a rod in her right arm, and now they kept her in the cooling period and are thinking about her knee alignment. How much pain does she need to tolerate? Maybe she is pulling all her strength to fight against her injuries, but I am left with no energy to watch her suffering. Which parent dares to see their child like this? Is this what we deserve to face?"
P: "Uncle, if we don't find up the courage, who will become her support? I know how desperately you both want to cry in each other's arms and how hard it must be for you to hold those tears. I will speak with the doctor and request to perform the surgery if necessary, or extend the relaxation she needs for the next six months if that's the case. I know what she is going through is so hard to survive, but if we aren't there for her, who will she rely on? Think about Aunty and Rahul, uncle. Whom should they grieve for? How hard it could be for them, at this point, they are not even left with any tears to bear their pain. Please, don't make it hard for your family."
He nodded weakly, and Parthiv stepped out of his room.
R: "How is he feeling now?"
P: "He was severely depressed to this toll, and he is so weak."
R: "If the same continues, doctors warned that his heart stroke might repeat after these many years."
S: "Oh god, when will this turmoil end in our family?"
P: "Aunty, don't be disheartened. He will recover as her health stabilizes slowly. My parents will visit this week, and we will decide on something good for everyone. Please stay strong."
It was almost lunchtime time and Parthiv came to Deepthi's room to feed her.
P: "Deepu, please, I mean just drink this soup. Good for bones, as yours are weak right now. I promise this one's gonna be the last item for this meal."
D: "Nooooooooo.......you guys are feeding me more frequently than I breathe in a day. All thanks to you, you are feeding me with your hand like my mom does when I visit my home, despite my insistence, and guess what, I put on 7-8 kgs for sure. As if that's not sufficient, you want me to drink this tasteless soup, hell, nah. Don't know when I can hit the gym, uff."
P: "You know what? When someone feeds us with their hand, the food tastes extra good, and we increase our appetite without knowing, which is why I am feeding you sometimes if your mom is there with your dad. Don't worry about your weight; it has to be me to lift more weights in the gym. Why do you need to work out?
D: "Seriously, Parthiv! Why do you need to babysit me? I want to work out to get some relief. It feels so exhausting here, watching the same walls, looking out from the same window as if I were arrested. I now realize how blessed it would be to go out and work every day, not everyone gets such a privilege."
P: "A Few more days. I will try to convince the doctor to take you home and continue the further treatment if any."
D: "Hmm....how's dad by the way? He is okay, right?"
