After Aiman left the cafe with a cheerful smile and a promise to see him at the party, Ahaan remained seated, staring at the empty chair across from him. Her perfume was still there in the air, but instead of it soothing  him, it made his chest feel heavier.

He leaned back, exhaling shakily, his eyes fixed on nothing in particular. He wondered what will happen to them when he's not around

His thoughts instantly drifted to Umer and Zara. He could almost see Umer’s mischievous grin across the table, that forced bravery he wore like armor, pretending to be stronger than he truly was. And then Zara, her innocent pout, her endless chatter, the way her wide eyes always searched for his, begging silently for reassurance that her world was still safe.

And then, as if someone had stabbed through his heart, memories of their childhood came rushing back the night their father left. The night everything shattered. He remembered the way Umer clung to his hand, both of them shivering in the dark after being thrown out. He remembered umer's cries, muffled in his lap, asking questions he never had answers for. Nights they cried, searching for shelter, nights when childhood was stripped away and replaced with burdens no child should ever know.

“No,” Ahaan muttered under his breath, tightening his jaw.

“Mai umer ko dusra Ahaan banne nahi desakta, they will never go through what I went. History will not repeat again.”

His mind raced. Money. Security. A roof. Protection. All the things he had fought for with blood and sleepless nights to give them he couldn’t let it collapse if he was gone.

Slowly, he pulled out his phone and opened his banking app, staring at the numbers that once made him feel powerful but now felt meaningless.

“Yeh sab… agar mai nahi rahunga toh kiska hoga? Sirf un dono ke liye kamaya agar mai nahi rahunga toh koi aur aajega in chizo pe haq jatane aur mere bache dar dar ki thokar khange!". He muttered himself

The first thought that striked his mind was of his mother, she would be the first one to claim all his belongings and kick umer anda zara out of his house, his relatives which are not in contact were not less than her.

Ahaan’s lips trembled as the thought solidified. He would transfer everything  bank accounts, properties, shares all under Umer’s name. Umer was young, but strong. He would take care of Zara. He would shield her the way Ahaan always did.
The thought stung like fire, yet gave him a strange peace.

At least they won’t have to beg the world. At least they won’t feel abandoned.

His fingers hovered over his phone as he began transacting everything, one by one, into Umer’s accounts. With every confirmation notification, his heart felt lighter

He tried calling lawyer after 2 attempts the lawyer picked his call

"Kab se call kar raha tha aapko, important kaam hai abhi ke abhi kariye, mere saare properties, business, bank accounts sab kuch umer ke naam karwana hai, defence ka plot meri soon to be wife Aiman ke naam, aur zara jab 18+ hogi to jo kuch hai wo sab Umer aur zara me equally divide hoga, guardianship papers banwayein jisme zara ki guardianship mere baad umer lega yeh sab kuch half an hour me reary karwayein!" Ahaan ordered

"Mr. Malik aaj sunday hai court bund hoga aur yeh sab kuch half an hour me possible nahi hai mujhe atleast 1 month ka time chahiye!" Lawyer said

"I don't care, aap kya karenge kaise karenge mujhe nahi pata par agle 40 minutes me mujhe in sab ke papers chahiye!" Ahaan snapped

"Itni urgent kya hai kya aap kahi jarahe ho?" The lawyer asked

"Apse jitna kaha hai utna karein!" Ahaan snapped again
