Jarah:We have to adopt her

Context:Sarah and John B's five year old daughter Mia has a babysitter who's 15 years old and she's been asking to stay with Sarah and John B just because of some things going on at home. The babysitters name is Melanie.

"Mia Melanie's here to pick you up." Mia's teacher said. "Ok bye Mrs Sanchez." Mia said as she walked out of the classroom. "Melly" Mia said as she hugged Melanie. "Hi Mimi you ready to head home?" Melanie said. "Yea are we walking home today?" Mia asked. "Yes we are it's not that far but let's zip up your coat first." Melanie said. Mia zipped up her coat and put her hands in her pocket. "Where are your gloves Mimi?" Melanie asked. "In my backpack." Mia said. Melanie grabbed Mia's gloves and then she just held Mia's hand as they walked home. Melanie opened the door and let Mia walk inside. "Melly I'm gonna go wash my hands." Mia said. Melanie yelled ok and just took her coat off. Melanie went into the kitchen and saw Mia washing her hands. "What do you want for dinner?" Melanie asked. "Umm we have some leftover chicken from last night Mommy made extra so you could have some." Mia said. "I'm not hungry right now but I can heat it up for you later." Melanie said. "Ok I'm gonna watch a movie." Mia said. "Where in the living room or your room?" Melanie asked. "My room." Mia said. Mia went to her room to watch a movie while Melanie just cleaned up the kitchen. Melanie was cleaning up the kitchen when she saw note on the dining table. "Dear Melanie I hope you like this basket it has some new clothes, hairbrush, toothbrush, and new pair of shoes. We hope you like it. Sarah and John B." Melanie read. Melanie took a quick shower and then went to check on Mia. "Mimi you ready for.." Melanie said as she walked into Mia's room but saw her sleeping on the floor. Melanie went over and shook Mia awake. "Sorry Mimi do you want to go take a shower?" Melanie said. "Yea" Mia groggily said. Mia went to go shower while Melanie heated up the left over chicken Sarah made the night before. Melanie put the chicken onto a plate and then cut up some apples for Mia and herself. "Melly can you brush my hair I tired to but there's a knot in it." Mia said as she walked into the kitchen. "I can brush it while you eat your food." Melanie said. "Ok" Mia said. Melanie started brushing Mia's hair when someone opened the door. "Melanie we're home." Sarah called out. "In the kitchen." Melanie called out. "There you are you forgot to pick up your money from yesterday but here you go is your mom on the way?" Sarah said as she gave Melanie the money. "Umm no she's not I got in trouble for coming home after curfew so she's not picking me up." Melanie said. "Do you need a ride home we can give you one." Sarah said. "Who are we giving a ride home?" John B said as he walked into the kitchen. "Melanie her mom isn't picking her up because she missed curfew." Sarah said. "We can leave now." John B said. Everyone walked out of the house and John B drove them to where Melanie said to drop her off. Melanie got out of the car and walked over to an abandoned building. John B was about drive off but he couldn't. "She's not staying here." John B said as he got out of the car. John B walked over and saw Melanie trying to start a fire. "Mel do you live here?" John B asked. "Yea." Melanie whispered. "Come on you're staying with us." John B said. "I don't want to be a burden to guys I'm fine here." Melanie said.

"Mel you can stay with us we can contact child services tomorrow and see how we or they can help." John B said. Melanie grabbed her stuff and she walked back with John B. As they were walking Melanie felt someone come up behind her so she punched the person. "You little why would you punch me like that." The voice said. "I'm sorry but you shouldn't creep up on someone like that... Mom what the hell." Melanie said. "You're late again you know what happens when you're late." Melanie's mom said. Melanie ran behind John B and didn't say anything. "Ma'am just step back we're trying to help her so she can have a nice place to sleep for the night." John B said. "I will not step back Melanie get your ass over here now." Melanie's mom said. "No." Melanie said. Melanie's mom went by Melanie and punched her. "Owww my nose why would you do that?" Melanie said. Melanie held her face in pain while she ran to Sarah's car. "Mel Mia can you hand me the tissue box." Sarah said as she saw Melanie. Sarah grabbed some tissues and she gave them to Melanie. Sarah told her to sit in the car next to her and Melanie held her hand. "I'm calling 911 did she hit John B?" Sarah said. "I don't know but my nose really hurts and she smelled like beer and her she had needles in pocket." Melanie said. "Mommy where's Daddy?" Mia asked. "He's outside he'll be back soon. The police sirens lit up the area and Melanie's mom immediately took a gun out of her back pocket and pointed it at John B. "Daddy" Mia said as she ran out of the car. Melanie got out of grabbed Mia. "Let me go I have to help Daddy." Mia said. "The police will help him we can't go over there my Mommy isn't very nice and she might hurt you if you go over there." Melanie said. "Girls get over here now." Sarah yelled. Melanie went to grab Mia's hand when she heard her mom say I will shoot both of our kids if you try to take her away from me. "Mimi run." Melanie yelled. Mia looked at Melanie she just stood there. "You think I won't watch me." Melanie's mom said as she pointed her gun at Melanie and Mia. Melanie shielded Mia with her body as the gun went off Mia screamed. A police officer radioed for an ambulance and ran over the girls. "Melly's bleeding you have to help her." Mia said to the officer. The officer picked Melanie up and took her to his car. "Mimi is she..." MelaKie said but was cut off by Mia. "I'm right here Mommy's gonna drive herself to the hospital. Daddy punched your mommy so he has to get checked out." Mia said. "Is he gonna go to jail?" Melanie said. "I don't think so." The officer said.

Once they arrived at the hospital the officer brought Melanie inside and she got checked out. A nurse took Mia to get checked out since her wrist was hurting since Melanie fell on top of her. "Daddy!" Mia said as she saw John B. "Hey baby girl how's your wrist?" John B said. "Umm the doctor said I have a hairline fracture." Mia said. "Is that bad?" John B asked. "No it's just like a bad sprain it should heal in about 4 weeks." The doctor said. "Ok did you hear anything about Melanie Brooks?" John B said. "All that I know from my colleagues is that she's going to be put into the foster care system and the bullet didn't do any damage internally." The doctor said. John B just shook his head and the doctor walked out. "Daddy I want to see Melly." Mia said. "I don't know if we can baby." John B said. "Aww can I see Mommy now?" Mia said. "Yea I'll... there's Mommy." John B said as he saw Sarah waking by. "Hey my little bean how's your wrist?" Sarah said. "It doesn't hurt as bad anymore." Mia said. "That's good. A woman from child services should be coming in and I need to sign the papers she's going to give you." Sarah said. "Why?" John B said. "Do you want Melanie to go into foster care?" Sarah said. "No" John B said. "Well sign the papers." Sarah said. "Got it." John B said. John B signed the papers and then they all left for the night.
