LIZZ MAYBERRY POV
I woke up as my alarm went off, signaling that it was 7:00 am. I showered and considered blow drying and straightening my hair but decided against it because effort. I don't really use makeup. Every now and then I'd put some on for a special occasion. Nodody notices if I wear it, so what is the point of spending money and waking up early? Much like a broken pencil, it is pointless. I dressed in dark wash jean shorts, and a flowy white t-shirt with a blue tank top underneath. I ate breakfast and brushed my teeth before glancing at the clock. I still had ten minutes before I had to head to the Ryder's.
I turned on the TV to some random sitcom. I absentmindedly watched it as I thought about what the kids and I would do today. It's the beginning of summer break, so maybe we'll go to the beach? Suddenly the previous day's events flooded back to me.
"Oh me word, I'm friends with Harry Styles!" I yelled. I couldn't help the smile came with that thought. I really liked him. Not romantically, but as a friend. And I needed a friend my age right now. The only people I really spend time with are the Ryders and they're either a lot older or a lot younger than me.
I did a double-take at the clock and realized I needed to walk to the Ryder's house immediately. I grabbed my white converse and made my way to the door. On the path there I saw that the message light on my answering machine was blinking. I pressed play and was supprised to hear Mrs. Ryder's voice, "Hey, Lizz, it's Joy Ryder. I was just calling to say that Matt and I will be leaving the house early because there was an emergency at our work. Harry knows and will look after the kids until you arrive. They might sleep for a while because it's summer and all. I'm sorry but it's gonna be another late night."
I shrugged and pressed the delete button. It's okay if it is another late night. I loved my job. I walked out my front door and locked it behind me. I jogged over to the Ryder's house and let myself in with the key they gave me, trying to be really quiet because the kids might still be sleeping.
I was about to walk into the kitchen when I heard a British someone on the phone, "I know, right?" It was Harry. There was a pause as the person on the other side of the line spoke. I hung back around the corner but peeked out to see Harry sitting at the island counter, facing away from me."No, she had no idea who I was, isn't that great? She treats me like any other lad. And I wouldn't like it any other way. I can be me, Harry Styles, not some famous singer," Harry said into the phone, "Lou, I really like her. Not how you'd usually fancy a girl though. Not like I want to get her in bed and then leave. She's the kind of person who, who I just really want to be her FRIEND. There's just something about this girl." Harry trailed off. "I just like being around her."
It was getting awkward for me now, so I decided to make my presence known. I coughed loudly and I walked lazily into the kitchen and poured myself a glass of milk. I heard Harry mumble a goodbye to whomever he was talking to on the phone and I turned around, pretending to see him there for the first time. I put on my supprised face. "Oh, hi. Who were you talking to?" I asked casually, sipping on my milk.
HARRY STYLES POV
As Aunt Joy and Uncle Matt left, I wondered what the work emergency could have been. It wasn't my place to ask, though, so I kept my thoughts to myself. Joy asked me to take care of the kids until Lizz got here. And I complied, of course. My cousins were the best.
Speaking of Lizz, I had to call Louis, I hadn't talked to him in two days and wanted to tell him about her. Louis is one of my best friends and it feels weird not talking to him for even two days. I dialed the familiar number from memory and waited for him to answer. "Hello?" He asked, sounding tired.
