Thursday
LIZZ MAYBERRY POV
After the baseball game we headed out for ice cream. Flynn's team won and while we ate, we listened to animated stories about key plays of the close game. Around 5:00 I rounded everyone to the car because I still had to make dinner when we got home.
The kids need a nanny because both parents have very demanding jobs that require lots of late nights. But on the other hand, that's why they can afford a nanny. Both parents are extremely hard workers and I admire that about them. They give me $20 a day for things the kids want to buy (ice cream, movie tickets) and if not used, I return it. I work Monday through Friday. I get weekends off because usually the Ryders do family stuff together, which I think is nice. I've heard the saying, "If I died and went to hell, it would take me a good week to realize I wasn't at my workplace anymore." I am so glad that isn't true for me. I love my job, I love the kids, I love the parents, and I guess the nephew isn't that bad either.
We drove home in my 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Harry turned on the radio as I pulled into the subdivision we live in. My most recent favorite song, One Thing, came on and I, along with Flynn and Mickey started screaming the lyrics, while Claire just screams in general. Harry has an amused look on his face.
//I've tried playing it cool/ but when I'm looking at you/ I can't ever be brave/ Cause you make my heart race//
//Shot me out of the sky/ you're my kryptonite/ you keep making me weak/ yeah frozen and can't breathe//
As the song went on we kept singing and Harry joined in on at a few points, too. I must say, he has a b-e-a-utiful voice. It was great timing because as soon as we pulled into the drive way, the song ended with us all singing 'You've got that, One Thing' for the last time.
After we ate dinner, we decided to watch a movie before bed. We chose Tangled, each for our own reasons. Claire: it had a princess in it. Mickey: it was action/adventurey. Flynn: it had a character named Flin Rider. No relation. Harry and I: everyone else wanted to watch it. Flynn sat on the end of the couch, then Mickey, Claire, me, and lastly Harry next to me. I have to say, I like that movie more than a 19 year old should. I didn't know if Harry was a manly-man who didn't like these kinds of movies but I caught him smiling a few times and even laughing.
As soon as the movie ended, I got the kids ready for bed because it was already past their bedtimes. I read Claire and Mickey two books while Flynn read his own book with Harry. When everyone was peacefully (or not so peacefully) in bed, Harry and I made our way downstairs. I headed to the kitchen for a late-night snack, even though it was only 9:15. I grabbed a cereal bar and Harry did too.
"So, you like the song One Thing?" Harry asked me
"Yeah, it's my favorite non-country song right now. Do you like it?" I answered him.
He let out a loud laugh and asked, "Have you ever seen the music video? I think it's pretty good."
"Nope," I said, popping the 'p'. "Let's check it out."
I lead him into the computer room and fired up the Mac. Harry typed in "One Thing" and the link for the music video popped up. We clicked on the video and paused it, waiting for it to load all the way.
I smiled to myself as I said, "The second part of the first verse of the song is my favorite part of my favorite song. You know, the part about the kryptonite? Whoever sings that part. I just really love his voice. Then again, all the voices are really good."
Harry tried to nod solemnly but failed miserbly as he let out a small laugh and smiled.
"What's so funny," I asked.
