"Madi."

I quietly hummed as I wiped down a table.

"Madi?"

I continued wiping down the table, my humming growing louder.

"Madilyn Marie Taylor!

"What?" I turned to my best friend who stared at me with an aggravated look on her face. I held back a laugh.

"I've been calling your name..." She said, narrowing her eyes as I laughed. "I'm closing up." She threw her rag at me and skated to the front of the diner to lock the doors.

I used her rag to finish wiping all of the tables and I carefully sat in a chair to take of my skates.

"You need a ride home?" Kendra asked, slipping off her skates and grabbing her coat. Her blonde hair got caught in a button and I laughed, causing her to shoot me a glare.

"No, moms picking me up." I smiled at her as she nodded and left.

Seconds later a horn beeped and I walked out, locking the back door as I did.

Mom smiled at me when I sat down.

"How was work?" She asked. I hummed along to the song playing on the radio and stared out the window.

"Same as it is every other week." I said with a soft laugh. Mom nodded and hummed to the song with me.

I look like my mom, I always have. We have the same long brown wavy hair- mines slightly shorter- , the same sparkling blue eyes, and even the same personality. Aside from Kendra, my mom is my best friend. I tell her everything. I hate lying to my mom.

Once when I was seven I dropped a picture and it broke. When my mom asked what happened I told her my cat, Peanut Butter knocked it over. She believed me but I felt terrible.

Twenty minutes later I started crying, apologized for lying, and begged for forgiveness. She had laughed at me and told me that it was alright and that I shouldn't be afraid to tell her the truth.

Sadly, Peanut Butter died three years ago when I was fourteen. I was crazy upset because I had that cat since I was four.

Mom had bought me a dog in hopes that it would make losing Peanut Butter easier. It did to an extent, but I still miss that little kitty.

My dogs name is Jelly, in memory of Peanut Butter, and he's a beagle.

Mom pulled into the driveway and we both got out of the car and walked into the house. The same house we've lived in since I was growing up.

When we walked into the house it was the same scene as every other night.

Dad was watching football, Melanie was texting wildly on her phone, and jelly was sleeping in the corner of the room.

They looked up when we walked in and dad got up to hug me and kiss mom. I made a face and was about to speak when Melanie beat me to it.

"Get a room." She looked up from her phone for a second before looking back at it.

Melanie had her hair into a messy bun and was wearing her favorite pajamas; a tank top and sweatpants.

Melanie was fourteen and looked like our dad. She had dirty blonde hair and green eyes. Her personality was way different than mine but we were almost inseparable.

I bid my family goodnight and went upstairs to fall asleep peacefully.

"This is the last time we'll be able to do this for a while." Kendra sighed, resting her head against the chair.

I leaned against my own chair. I felt a soft breeze pass and I smiled, the ocean breeze was something I'd miss the most.

Every weekend over the summer, Kendra and I stayed with my grandparents at the beach. It sounds boring, I know, but if you knew my grandparents you'd understand. They're hilarious, and also give us privacy when we want it.

Since school starts Wednesday we aren't leaving until Tuesday. Neither of work weekdays anymore. Only Friday through Sunday's.

"Earth to Madi." Kendra waved her hand in my face. I looked at her confused. "I'm going in for lunch, want to come?"

I looked up at the house and shook my head. I wanted to enjoy my last few days.

She nodded and left. I immediately closed my eyes and rested my head against my chair again.

I started humming a John Mayer song, soon my hums turned into words and I was singing softly.

"You have a beautiful voice." I squealed and jumped at the voice.

I looked up to see a cute guy. A very cute guy.

He had brown hairs that were swept to the side perfectly, and sparkling brown eyes that seemed to look straight through me. He had light brown stubble along his face, and above his lip; something he pulled of well. There was a small sparkle in his eyes when he smiled that had my heart beating faster than I ever thought possible.

Then of course, the six pack.

He chuckled at me and I froze. He caught me checking him out. I stared at him still. He took the time to check me out openly, not hiding it.

I didn't have much for him to check out though. I had a small chest compared to Kendra. I had a small everything compared to Kendra. She filled out her bikini in every aspect while my bikinis didn't show much, well except my butt. That's a nice aspect.

Another fun fact about my body, I eat a lot- Like a lot- But I stay small; something Kendra hates.

"David." He said, holding out his hand. I stared at it, unsure of what to do. "You're supposed to shake it." He whispered, leaning down towards me. I gulped and leaned into my chair, separating us.

"Madilyn, but everyone calls me Madi." He sat next to me; in the seat that's supposed to be occupied by my best friend. Traitor.

"Alright, Madilyn." He put emphasis on my name. "What are you doing down here by yourself?"

"Enjoying the silence." I said closing my eyes, and hoping to make him go away. He was cute, but I don't need any distractions.

I heard him chuckle and then it was quiet. I smiled to myself proudly.

"Still here." I groaned and stood up. Leaving him behind, I walked towards the water. I heard footsteps splash against the shallow water as I dove under a wave.

I came up and screamed when I saw him standing right next to me with a goofy grin across his face.

"Hey." He said. I started to narrow my eyes, but it didn't work. I started laughing. He smiled triumphantly and I rolled my eyes.

David and I splashed around in the waves and talked a little bit before I went back to sit on the beach and he left to play volley ball with his friends.

David turned out to be a cool guy, and he wasn't just looking for a beach hookup. It seemed like he genuinely wanted to be friends.

Not something you see everyday.

So that night, I went to sleep happily, replaying the day in my head.
