"Madilyn." He said sternly. "Stay behind." I nodded and sat back in my chair, texting Kendra that I'd be out in a minute.
I knew this was coming.
"Madi Madi Madi." Jon teased. "In trouble already. What will we do with you?"
I gave him a small smile. He leaned down and kissed my cheek.
"Love you, girl." He said, resting a hand on my shoulder. I nodded. "Don't forget that."
"I could never." I smiled a real smile this time. This was my best friend. He knew me inside and out and always made sure I never forgot how much he loved me. I was the first one he told about him being gay, and I was the one who encouraged him to come out.
Jon left the room after giving me a kiss on the forehead.
My smile faded when I saw an enraged David. He shut and locked the door, covering it up and pointing to a large closet we kept our harmony outfits in.
I went to the closet and he flipped on the light, shutting the door behind him.
"What the hell was that?" He yelled. I flinched and stared at him.
"W-what was what?" I stuttered, terrified.
"He kissed you! Twice!" He yelled.
Okay. I could have done the normal thing and calmly explained that Jon was gay but...
I lost it. I cracked up. Tears were flowing from eyes while I clutched my stomach from laughing. I held onto a clothes rack to prevent falling over and continued to laugh.
David did not look amused.
His unimpressed look made me sober up, although I was still chuckling and smiling.
"He's gay." I said. David stared at me. "Like, four guys at once gay." He still didn't get it. "Like up the-" he slapped a hand over my mouth and narrowed his eyes at me.
"I get it." He removed his hand and sighed. "Now the next issue.."
Uh oh.
"You're my student." I nodded. He ran a hand over his face. "I'm your teacher." He sighed again. "God damn it!" His voice rose and he punched the door.
I felt so conflicted, I didn't know if I should comfort him or if that would make things worse.
I reached forward, ignoring my thoughts, and lay my hand on his tense arm. He looks at my hand and his body eases under my touch.
He grabs my neck and pulls me closer, resting his forehead on mine.
"I can't lose you yet. I just got you." He whispers, his breath fanned my lips and I gulped.
"It has to be over." I said, a tear leaving my eye. "You worked so hard to get here. You were so excited about your new job. I can't take that away."
He shook his head and gripped my head tighter- not enough to hurt.
"Madilyn..." He whispered, his voice cracking. He leaned forward and pressed his lips to mine softly.
I pulled away with tears in my eyes.
"I have to go." I made my way around him and pushed open the door. Tears were flowing from my eyes. David grabbed my wrist before I left the closet. I stopped and waited, but he said nothing. I finally walked out of the classroom and towards Kendra's car. She was there with a boy, laughing, whispering, kissing.
"Hey, Madi, you'll never guess-" Kendra started and stopped when she saw my face. "Oh no." She pushed Danny back and wrapped her arms around me. That was when I really lost it. I clutched Kendra tightly and sobbed my eyes out. I sounded like a dying walrus, but I could care less at the moment. Kendra rubbed my back gently and pulled away, still holding me at arms length.
"Mint Chocolate chip or cookie dough?" She asked, with a small smile.
"Mint chocolate chip." I hiccuped and sobbed some more. She nodded eagerly and I got in the passenger seat while she got in the front, completely forgetting about Danny.
"Oh! Bye Danny!" She yelled out the window before pulling out the parking lot. Kendra and I, like most girls, used ice cream to fix our sad hearts. Cookie dough ice cream was for when we were sad, but we would be alright after a bowl or two. Mint chocolate chip was for when we felt completely broken and needed two tubs just to fix us.
So, three tubs of ice cream later Kendra and I are laying in my bed watching the vow.
"So you were the one who ended it?" Kendra said. I nodded and cuddled more into my pillow. "Wow." She huffed. My phone went off, again, and I sighed. I picked it up, and turned it off before throwing it at the end of the bed. Kendra eyed the phone and looked back at me.
"61 texts, 37 calls." I said, reading her unasked question. She nodded, biting her lip. I rolled my eyes at sat up. "Go on, say it."
"I don't know what you're talking about." She said.
"Kendra." I warned. "You did the weird lip thing you do when you want to say something but don't want to hurt my feelings. Spit it out."
"Fine." She sighed. "Maybe you should answer him. I mean, he really cares about you, Madi and you really like him."
"I do.." I said softly. "But it's against the law."
"That didn't stop you before." She pointed out.
"Kendra he's my teacher."
"Yeah he's mine too." She said. I rolled my eyes and groaned.
"I just can't do it." I said, laying down again and ending the conversation. I flipped off the lamp and closed my eyes.
I heard Kendra sigh before she continued to watch the movie.
David is my teacher. We can't be together, and he'll understand soon enough. He'll realize why I did what I did. It was all for him.

So Many Reasons
Romance"You're overthinking. I see those gears turning in that pretty little head of yours." I laughed at him and sighed. "There's so many reasons we can't be together, David." He nodded. "I know, but I'm willing to do whatever it takes." "Okay." I said...
