Dexter Avenue — Eric and Lexie's Townhouse

Lexie woke slowly.

For a moment she wasn't entirely sure why she was smiling.

Then she felt the steady rise and fall beneath her cheek.

Eric.

The smile returned immediately.

He was still asleep beside her, one arm loosely around her waist, dark hair slightly disheveled from sleep.

Christmas morning, she had woken first and spent several minutes simply watching him before he'd eventually opened his eyes.

Apparently, she hadn't learned her lesson.

Lexie shifted slightly, propping herself up on one elbow.

She studied him.

The line of his jaw.

The faint crease between his brows that somehow existed even when he was asleep.

The way one strand of hair had fallen stubbornly across his forehead.

Her fingers drifted lightly across his chest.

Small circles.

Aimless patterns.

The kind of touch that didn't need a reason.

He didn't stir.

Lexie smiled to herself.

A few moments passed.

Then a few more.

The townhouse remained quiet around them.

Her fingers continued their lazy path across his shirt.

Still nothing.

Suspicious.

Lexie narrowed her eyes slightly.

The corner of Eric's mouth twitched.

She froze.

Another twitch.

And then he smiled.

Lexie's jaw dropped.

"You were awake."

Eric's eyes opened.

"I was."

"You are unbelievable."

"I know."

"You were pretending to be asleep."

"I was."

Lexie stared at him.

"You remembered."

His smile softened.

"Yes."

The last time she'd woken first, she'd spent several minutes watching him before realizing he was awake.

Apparently he had enjoyed it enough to recreate the experience.

Lexie shook her head, laughing.

"You are ridiculous."

She shifted until she was lying across his chest.

Eric's arm settled automatically around her back.

Lexie reached up and brushed her fingertips across his temple.

His eyes never left hers.

Her fingers moved through his hair.

Then down the bridge of his nose.
