Grey's Anatomy Season 8 Episode 1

One Month Later

LOS ANGELES
Almost Midnight
The Landing Strip Bar

The neon sign outside The Landing Strip buzzed weakly against the warm Los Angeles night.

Last call had come and gone. The crowd had thinned to regulars, insomniacs, and people avoiding going home.

At the far end of the bar, a dark-haired woman sat sideways on her stool, one boot hooked around the rung beneath her.

Leather jacket.

Black T-shirt.

Faded jeans.

Dark hair falling loosely around her shoulders.

She looked like she'd spent the day outdoors rather than inside an office.

The bartender slid another beer toward her. She barely noticed.

Her attention was fixed three stools away.

A blonde woman laughed at something one of her friends said.

The dark-haired woman smirked into her bottle.

A moment later, the blonde glanced over.

Their eyes met.

Neither looked away.

The blonde smiled first.

Slowly.

The dark-haired woman's mouth curved in response, nodded and tilted the beer towards her.

Challenge accepted.

The blonde excused herself from her friends.

By the time she claimed the empty stool beside her, the outcome was already obvious.

Arts District, Los Angeles
Mateo Street Apartment

Nearly two hours later, they stumbled out of an elevator and into the fourth-floor hallway of a converted warehouse building in the Arts District.

The dark-haired woman missed the lock.

Then missed it again.

Then somehow managed to stick the key into the wrong door entirely.

The blonde folded her arms.

"Oh, that's encouraging."

"Shh."

She attempted to put a finger over the blonde's lips and completely missed, nearly sending her stumbling forward.

"You'll wake the neighbours."

The blonde laughed.

"The neighbours are absolutely awake."

The dark-haired woman squinted at the lock.

"Hang on."

She checked the apartment number.

Then checked it again.

"Right. This should be it."

"You don't sound very confident."

"I am confident."

A beat.

"The key's just being difficult."

"The key?"

"Mm."

"Not the tequila?"

"Definitely the key."

The blonde laughed again.
