Grey's Anatomy Season 7 Episode 19

ONE WEEK
Sofia Robbin Sloan Torres
1 lb, 1 oz

Early Morning
Sixth Floor — Pediatrics Wing
NICU

Lexie had been at the nurses' station outside the NICU finishing notes when she spotted Mark through the glass.

He was inside Sofia's room.

Not scrubbed in. Not consulting. Not doing anything particularly useful.

He was simply standing beside the incubator, watching.

A nurse handed him a disposable camera.

Mark immediately took another picture.

Then another.

Then lowered it and smiled.

The kind of smile Lexie hadn't seen from him in a long time.

Soft. Completely unguarded.

He looked down at the image.

Looked back at Sofia.

Then took another photograph.

As if he couldn't help himself.

As if he was afraid he'd miss something.

One movement.

One blink.

One ounce.

Anything.

Lexie found herself smiling.

Not because it was Mark.

Because it was Sofia.

Because everyone in the hospital seemed a little invested in her survival.

A few minutes later, Mark stepped out of the NICU.

He noticed Lexie at the nurses' station.

Their eyes met.

For a second, neither seemed entirely sure what to say.

Then Mark gave a small nod.

"Grey."

"Mark."

He returned the camera to his pocket.

"She's up another ounce."

Lexie smiled.

"That's good."

"Yeah."

A beat passed.

Then he nodded once more and continued down the hallway toward the elevators.

Lexie watched him go.

Nothing more than that.

Just another observation.

Mark was here every day.

Fourth Floor — PACU

Callie Torres was trying to move her fingers.

Cristina and Arizona stood behind the table at the foot of Callie's bed, cheering her on like they were watching the final seconds of a championship game. Bailey waited nearby, arms folded, trying to look professional but no less invested in the outcome.

"Go. Go. You got it."

"Focus. Focus."

"Come on, come on, come on."
