Morning
Dexter Avenue — Eric and Lexie's Townhouse

Lexie slowly opened her eyes, her gaze adjusting to the sunlight peeking through the gap in the curtains.

It took her a moment to realize Eric was still there.

Usually, he was awake before sunrise.

Some strange morning ritual that apparently required consciousness before the rest of humanity.

This morning, he wasn't.

The moment she shifted to face him, his arm tightened around her waist.

Lexie smiled.

That answered one question.

He was awake.

She rolled onto her side and rested her cheek against his chest.

"Hm."

Lexie smiled.

"You're still here."

His voice rumbled beneath her ear.

"Should I be going somewhere?"

"You know what I mean."

Lexie lifted her head slightly.

"You haven't gotten out of bed."

A beat.

"I just want to lie here a bit."

She blinked.

Eric's eyes were still closed.

"What?"

"We're not exactly chasing after anything."

His voice was lazy with sleep.

Or pretending to be.

With Eric, it was often difficult to tell.

"Why the rush?"

Another beat.

"Why move at all?"

Lexie stared at him.

Eric somehow managed to sound like he was delivering a lecture on laziness.

She poked his chest.

"You don't want to run this morning and you're lazy."

One eye opened.

A cheeky smile on his face.

"I don't want to run this morning and I'm lazy."

Lexie laughed.

"Right."

The second eye opened.

"Good morning, darling."

His sleepy accent was unfair.

She leaned up and kissed him.

"Good morning, babe."

He kissed her back once.

Then settled deeper into the mattress.

Still making absolutely no effort to move.

Lexie narrowed her eyes.

"You're suspiciously affectionate."

"I'm always affectionate."

She snorted.

Eric's arm tightened around her again.

Maybe I just want to stay here for a minute."
