The air at the carnival had been thick with the scent of cotton candy, fried food, and the distant waft of popcorn. The sounds of laughter, carnival game bells, and the occasional shriek from the roller coasters had made the night feel alive, electric.
You and Peter had spent hours running around like kids, hopping from ride to ride, challenging each other at game booths, and stuffing yourselves with all kinds of junk food. The Ferris wheel had been your favorite, especially when Peter wrapped an arm around you as the two of you reached the very top. The view had been breathtaking, but being in Peter's embrace? Even better.
By the time you got home, your feet were absolutely killing you. Every step felt like walking on needles. "God, I'm never wearing these shoes again," you had muttered, practically collapsing onto your bed the second you got inside.
The next morning, the pain had worsened tenfold.
The moment you swung your legs over the side of the bed and tried to stand, a sharp ache shot up from your feet, through your calves, and all the way up your back.
"Oh, hell no," you groaned, wincing as you tried to stretch. Your body protested in response, every muscle screaming in pain.
You limped into the bathroom, brushed your teeth, and tried to freshen up, but even lifting your arms to fix your hair felt like lifting weights. "I hate everything," you grumbled under your breath.
After struggling into your clothes, you made your way to school, moving at the pace of a senior citizen. Every step sent another jolt of pain through your legs, making you wince.
When you finally reached Midtown High, you spotted Peter at his locker, rummaging through his books like he hadn't spent the previous night running around as much as you did. He looked completely fine. Perfectly normal. Perfectly pain-free.
Freaking Spider-Man.
You hobbled toward him and immediately wrapped your arms around his waist, resting most of your weight against him. He turned, immediately hugging you back.
"You okay, babe?" Peter asked, pressing a kiss to the top of your head.
"I'm sore," you whined dramatically, burying your face against his chest. "I feel like I got hit by a truck."
"Aww, my poor baby," Peter cooed, running a hand soothingly up and down your back.
You pulled away just enough to glare up at him. "Shut up. I am so jealous of your stupid powers right now."
Peter chuckled. "I would've carried you here, but, y'know, we're at school. Not exactly the best place for a grand romantic gesture."
You pouted. "You could still carry me."
He grinned, leaning down to press a quick kiss to your lips. "You can lean on me. I got you."
Peter wrapped an arm around your waist, keeping you steady as the two of you started making your way to class. You leaned against him, grateful for the support.
Halfway down the hall, you spotted MJ and Ned by their lockers. The moment they saw you limping, MJ smirked.
"Woah," she said, crossing her arms. "Looks like you guys had a night. You could've taken it easy on her, Parker."
You groaned, already knowing where this was going. "Shut up, we just went to the carnival yesterday."
"Yeah," MJ drawled, raising an eyebrow. "And then Peter railed you afterwards?"
Peter let out the most exasperated groan, his face flushing bright red. "MJ, come on."
Ned stifled a laugh. "Dude, you're not helping your case by blushing."
You rolled your eyes. "For the record, nothing happened. I'm sore because we walked around the carnival all night, and those shoes were basically torture devices."
MJ shrugged. "Suuure."
Peter shook his head and turned to you. "Don't listen to them, babe." Then, with a smirk, he added, "Although, if you ever want to test that theory..."
You gasped, smacking his chest. "Peter!"
MJ and Ned burst into laughter as Peter grinned cheekily. "What?" he said innocently. "I'm just saying-"
You covered his mouth with your hand. "Not another word, Parker."
Peter licked your palm, making you shriek and pull your hand away. "Gross!"
He laughed, wrapping his arms around you again. "I love you."
You narrowed your eyes at him. "Mm-hmm. I'll remember this next time you're the one who's sore."
MJ snorted. "Yeah, that'll be the day."
Ned grinned. "Not unless Peter suddenly loses his superpowers."
Peter gasped. "Why would you even say that?! Rude."
You shook your head, leaning into Peter's warmth as the four of you headed to class. Even though your entire body was aching, being with Peter made it all a little more bearable.
