"Let me get this straight," The doctor looked down at the papers on his clipboard, "Your saying that you got these bruises because you keep bumping into poles, walls, and ice cream stands?" Maya nodded, chewing her lip, feeling bad in the process.
Lucas was watching her from the other room, observing her. Lucas could easily figure out that Maya was a chatterbox, sensitive, and doesn't seem to have a lot of hope.
"They do a real number on you," Maya laughed nervously, unsure if the doctor believed her or not. The doctor nodded one last time before walking away. Maya let out a big deep breath. She looked across the room, "Thanks for um, taking care of me."
"Huh, oh yeah, no problem," Lucas stopped looking at Maya, giving her a small smile.
"Uh, this might sound rude, if you think it is," Maya again, let out a nervous laugh. Mentally face palming herself, "Why were you so worried about me? I mean, not that I don't appreciate your help, it's just, I never even met you."
"You don't need to know my name, you'll know sooner or later. Also, I don't really help people a lot, so be lucky I saved your ass," Lucas, again turned back to his cold demeanor. Maya gave a slight nod, already knowing this guy was bipolar.

"Okay, I'm back."
Maya and Lucas looked up at the doctor. It's been twenty minutes and none of them had said a word.
"You'll need to go on crutches, and you'll be needing pain killers at least once a day," The doctor gave Maya her crutches and pain killers.
"Uh, great. Thanks, I'll just be going," Maya got up, easily learning how to use the crutches.
"Not so fast, you'll need a parent to sign the papers to let you go."
Lucas noticed how Maya tensed up when the doctor said that. He decided to not make assumptions, but just to ask her. It was as simple as that.
"O-okay."
The doctor gave one last smile before leaving the room. Maya sighed and hopped back on the bed. She began to look through the papers, not noticing Lucas looking at her.
"I assume your mom can't come."
Maya looked up at the papers, now beginning to be fed up with this boy, "N-no, not at all. It's just um, she has to, help baby birds who need help walking? Yeah, baby birds who need help walking," Maya knew she failed miserably at that lie.
"Birds have wings Blonde Beauty," Lucas gave a little smirk to Maya, who then responded by blushing, "I've never been called a 'Blonde Beauty'."
"What do people call you then?"
"The 'Broken Nerd'," Maya widened her eyes, realizing what she just said, "I mean, my m-mom calls me that, yeah her!"
"What mother calls her daughter the 'Broken Nerd'," Lucas pressed on, getting deeper. You see, due to Lucas's broken personality, he loved to break people. He loved it so much it began to be an addiction.
"Um, forget I ever said anything," With that, Maya grabbed her crutches, getting the papers, and leaving the hospital room. Lucas sighed, but quickly spotted Maya's backpack, with her sketchbook peeking out.
