After about two hours of driving, Lucas was about to fall asleep. He and Farkle decided to stop at a motel since they were both pretty tired. Farkle had already woken up Riley now he had to wake up Maya. He was honestly hoping Maya wouldn't slap him, because the last time he woke her up he was pretty sure she left a bruise. He gently shook her shoulder, "Maya, come one. Wake up, please. Don't hit me please."
Maya chuckled at Lucas's words, even though Lucas was protective about her, he always softened around her. "I like your use of words." Lucas smiled as they both got out of the car. They took both of their suitcases to which Lucas wanted to carry but in the end Maya won.
Both of them got their keys and entered their room. Lucas put his suitcase down and immediately flopped onto the bed. Maya laughed at how tired Lucas was. "Guess it's your turn Huckleberry." Lucas turned and faced Maya, he gave her a little smile. Lucas was somehow always smiling around Maya. Even when she wasn't doing anything and just standing there, he always smiled at her. He never wanted the feeling to go away.
Maya went to the bathroom to freshen up. That left Lucas alone on the bed. He sighed and thought of the events that happened today. He fidgeted with his fingers when he thought of Joshua. He wondered if he was still at the airport. He wondered if he had called the cops. He wondered if he was dead. Lucas shook that thought out of his head. He couldn't be dead, at least he hoped.
"Hey Lucas, I'm going to get some towels. I'll be right back." Lucas snapped out of his thoughts as Maya came back from the bathroom. Lucas nodded as Maya went out the door. A few seconds later Lucas heard another and he immediately thought it was Maya.
He yawned as he opened the door but to his surprise it was Riley, and she was not a happy Riley. "We need to talk, about Maya." Lucas didn't know what to say and just let her in.
"What about Maya?" Lucas decided that playing stupid would make this problem go away, because he knew what Riley was talking about.
"Don't play stupid with me Lucas! You know you have to tell Maya the truth." Riley crossed her arms and looked at Lucas. Riley cared about Maya, she really did.
"I don't have to tell her anything! Yes, when I made my plan to break her, I didn't have any feelings for her. But now, Maya has changed me for the better. Trust me I regret that plan more than anything."
Both of them stood in silence, too tired to say anything. Riley bit her lip and thought if Lucas was lying or not. She didn't know what to believe anymore.
"I can't believe you."
Lucas and Riley turned their heads toward the door and saw Maya with a tear stained face. Maya had heard everything, she wish she hadn't. She turned and did the one thing she was good at, running away. Lucas bolted after her screaming for her to stop. Riley followed his actions, she didn't want Maya to run away again. They had just mended their friendship.
Farkle heard yells and immediately decided to look out the door. He knew Riley was at Lucas's room, talking about who knows what. He then saw Maya running, "Maya!" Then he finally saw Riley and Lucas running after her.
He stopped Riley who had tears coming out of her eyes, "Riley what's wrong?" He wiped one tear away with his thumb. Riley was already tired, she had always hated to running or any kind of exercise.
"Farkle, it's Maya. I think she's trying to run away again." Farkle nodded, understanding what Riley meant by Maya running away. It meant Maya would be out of their lives again, and maybe this time it won't be temporary.

Meanwhile, Lucas was on a wild goose chase with Maya. He had to catch up with her, he didn't want her to disappear from his life again. He knew this would've happened if he had told the truth. Maya was too heartbroken, all she focused on was running. She was outside and on the road. She heard Lucas's protests, she only ran faster.
Maya was in the road and she decided to stop. She looked around and saw Lucas catching up to her. Maya was about to run when she headlights in front of her. She didn't know what to do, it was like she was frozen.
"Maya! Watch out!" Apparently Lucas did. He pushed Maya out of the way and watched as he incoming car came. Maya groaned and looked around for Lucas. She had expected he would go down with her. When she didn't see him she panicked into she looked onto the road. She immediately started crying while running towards him.
Lucas was on the road, and he wasn't moving.
