Maya sighed waking up to the morning sun. She pulled the cover over head isolated from the world. She didn't feel like facing reality today. It's been a month and Lucas hasn't made that much improvement with his memory crisis. Maya would visit him everyday, talking to him, trying to see if he remembers her. But she soon gave up. She couldn't bear looking at Lucas everyday knowing he'll never remember her. All together, she let Lucas go.
Maya tried, she bottled up her emotions, but she couldn't get Lucas out of her head. So she laid in her bed, hoping she could fall asleep again. A new habit Maya picked up on was sleeping. She wanted to forget every memory she and Lucas shared. The only way to do that was sleep. By doing that she escaped from reality. But, the world seemed to hate her when she heard her doorbell ring.
Maya let a loud groan before getting up and getting the door. The good thing out of this was reuniting with her mom. Maya missed her dearly. She didn't care if she was grounded for the rest of her life, she was glad her mom was back in her life.
Maya again groaned when she heard the doorbell ring again, "I'm coming!" She made sure to fix her hair before opening the door. When she did, her smile dropped. Standing right in front of her was the person she thought she'd never see again.
"Lucas?"
Lucas quickly composed himself, he didn't really remember Maya, but every time he saw her she took his breath away. "Um hi, your friend Riley sent me here."
Maya didn't say anything and instead stared at Lucas. She didn't want this to happen. She let Lucas go, and that was final.
"I just got out of the hospital and the doctor said to talk to the people who knew me so Riley sent me here." Lucas nervously scratched the back of his neck when Maya didn't say anything.
Maya quickly snapped back to reality, "Uh yeah, that's a great idea. Come in."
When Lucas entered Maya quickly closed the door looking at the boy who changed her life. Lucas looked the Hart household. The first thing that came to his mind was how broken it looked. It was as if the walls were scarred with memories.
"I can serve you some breakfast, I just got up." Maya walked to the kitchen ignoring Lucas's gaze.
Lucas watched as Maya started the stove, "No that's okay. I already ate." Lucas was lying at that part, he was starving. But he didn't want Maya to do any extra work.
"I insist, I make the best scrambled eggs. You used to come over here and always stuff your face in them." Maya smiled to herself. She looked at Lucas who had a confused look on his face and her smile quickly dropped. This was the reason why she had to let him go.
Lucas noticed this, "Well, I guess I'll try them." Maya nodded and went back to cooking her eggs.

Maya watched silently as Lucas ate one scrambled egg after the other. She knew that she should stop having these feelings for him. She would get hurt in the process. But Maya couldn't help it.
"Told ya you'll like it." Lucas took a sip of his water, delighted with his breakfast. "Thank you." Lucas smiled at Maya, and Maya returned the smile. It was silent between the two. Lucas didn't know what to say. He knew that Maya was hurting with the fact he couldn't remember her.
Maya was too busy pondering on the fact that Lucas only saw her as a stranger. She knew it must be hard for him too. Maya didn't want to but she had to, she had to try. Then one place popped in her mind.
"Let's go to Central Park."
•••
Maya and Lucas walked to Central Park. Maya felt glad to be out in the fresh sun for once. She couldn't remember the last time she went outside. In fact she was glad she was experiencing it with Lucas. Maya finally spotted the bench. Her eyes began to fill when thinking of the memories.
"Here, let's sit." Lucas followed Maya and sat on the bench. Again, more silent filled between them. Lucas was tired of it and decided to break the awkwardness, "What was I to you before the coma?" Maya didn't know what to say and pretended not to hear. She didn't want to answer that question.
When Maya didn't answer Lucas instantly felt bad, "Did I hurt you?" Maya looked at Lucas who looked at her concerned. "Yes."
"Oh, I'm sorry-"
"But you regretted it. This was before the coma. You changed my life. You made feel not broken, but fixed. But every happy ending soon comes apart. Homecoming, you let out a secret. One I can't deny. Then I ran away and you soon found me. I was happy, happy that you found me. Because I knew right then and there I knew couldn't live without you.
"I thought this would have a happy ending. I reunited with my ex-best friend and her lover, I was going home with you. But soon another secret was out. This time, you couldn't deny it but regret it. I was stupid and I ran away again. I was on the road and there was a car coming. You could've let me be but you decided take the hit for yourself. And then right then and there I knew that if you died, I would go out of my freaking mind."
Lucas didn't say anything, he listened to Maya and took in every word. He could only say one sentence, "When I get my memories back, I promise I won't hurt you again."
Maya smiled lightly and planted a kiss on Lucas's cheek. "Thank you." Lucas blushed from the kiss. Maya laughed at Lucas's face. And so the two of them sat there in silence. But it was a comfortable silence. Both of them were hurt all their lives. But together they mended each other.
And they cherished that.
