Lucas instantly walked over to Maya's backpack, grabbing her sketchbook out. He opened the first sketch, he was already shocked. There's no lying that Maya was a great artist, Lucas already knew that. Lucas turned to the last one, it was a drawing of a woman, and a daughter. The woman seemed to be working in a diner, while the daughter looked away and cried.

He felt one tear slid across his face, he wiped it away furiously. He grabbed Maya's backpack and her sketchbook, leaving the hospital room. Lucas knew about Maya's life, but he wasn't going to tell her, no, he was going to use this against her. Breaking her down slowly and painfully.

And he had a great plan on how to, he just felt bad, he finally found one person who shares his pain.

The next day Maya walked into school, hopping around in her crutches. Maya looked away from the states and glares, and instead walked to her locker. She opened up her locker and grabbed her history book, while dropping it in the process. Maya sighed, she knew no one would help her, so she tried.

"Here you go," Lucas picked up Maya's history book, but didn't give it back.

"Oh, um thank you," Maya looked around nervously, waiting for Lucas to give her back her history book, "Um, it's kinda my book, hence why my name is written on there." Maya tried to make light of this conversation, but failing miserably again.

"I know, that's why I'm going to need your other books, since I'm gonna be your chauffeur since your on crutches," Lucas smiled and gladly took all of Maya's textbooks. Maya scoffed, surprised and happy, "Okay, let's see how your handle my science text book."

She watched amazed as Lucas didn't look tired or in pain when he carried her science book, "Well, then, your sure got some muscle," Maya agin widened eyes at her dumbness, "I mean, not that I'm a stalker or anything, I just noticed. Not that I just stare at you all day, I just watch you lift things."

Lucas chuckled, again amused at Maya, "Yeah, well all the girls love me," Maya laughed as she followed Lucas down her first period.

Lunchtime rolled by, and the students were like buffalo racing down the hallway. Maya usually just sat in the library, not that she didn't like it, she loved to read the books. Lucas was surprised when Maya went the other way, "Isn't the lunchroom that way," Maya but her lip, feeling slightly offended.

"Um, I think this is where we separate, I actually eat in the library. So, you can go now, I'll just carry my books, I bet you'll be off to Harvard. Becoming the next basketball player, I'll be at hobo school learning about how to be hobo. Not that I know about the future! Oh shoot, probably jinxed it, way to go Maya."

Maya laughed nervously, walking away, forgetting about her schoolbooks. Lucas was amused, but this time he thought it was cute how Maya talked all day. He grabbed her arm gently, Maya stopped walking on her crutches, "Who said I wasn't going to eat lunch with you."

Maya smiled and followed Lucas down the library.

Maya ate her French fry, instantly going back to her book. Lucas just stared at her, he noticed how Maya didn't really pay attention that much. She put on this image that she's fine, but really she's not. Maya noticed Lucas's staring and instantly blushed, "Um, is there something on my face?"

"No, it's just your beauty," Lucas smiled, Maya responded by blushing again. She put down her book, putting her attention on Lucas, "It's pretty boring watching me read all day, isn't it," Maya took another French fry, eating it, "No, I actually think it's cool how you read books, and not Fan Fiction, real books," Lucas again smiled, not noticing how much he smiled around Maya.

"Thanks, I guess?," Maya chuckled, "I guess I'm just different from the other girls, every girl want a Chanel bag, I want the Percy Jackson series. Every girl around here wants or be a singer or a model, I want to be a writer. You know, I'm probably rambling now."

Maya shook her head, looking down at her lap. "I don't think your different, I think your different cool," Lucas smiled when Maya laughed, "I never got your name still," Lucas smiled, that was about the fifth time he smiled around Maya.

"Lucas, Lucas Friar."
