Everything was a blur for Maya. She felt like it was Homecoming all over again, and she felt like that stupid girl in the red dress where her only talent is running away from her problems. Perhaps that is the only thing she is good at. Everything she seemed to touch only seemed to burn. Lucas was in the hospital possibly dead, Bella Friar was now getting checked in for a coffin, and here was Maya. Crying her eyes out until she was sure it would turn from a light blue to red shot puffy eyes.
Her world was falling apart and it was all her fault. She was the one who was stupid enough to run away, as if Lucas would automatically forget about her. As if those moments between them didn't matter. Of course they did, Maya knew it and so did Lucas. She was the reason Lucas was in that hospital bed, twice now. She was the reason Lucas never got to say a single goodbye to his sister.
The thought of Bella made Maya cry harder. She knew Lucas said something about her coma and how she was getting better, but now she was gone just like that.
Maya heard a door open in her small apartment. She ignored it, simply thinking it was her mother coming home realizing her daughter wasn't in the car with her. But then here was a small knock at her door.
"Maya, it's me Riley. Can I come in?" A frail voice said from the other side. Maya stayed quiet, not feeling in the mood to be talked by a optimistic Riley Matthews.
"Maya, please let me in." Another knock was soon heard. "Maya Penelope Hart! I'm not leaving until you open this door!" Maya simply rolled her eyes as Riley knocked the hell out of that door.
Soon after the seventh knock Maya grumbled and got up, finally opening the damn door. Riley gasped when seeing her tear stained best friend. She grabbed Maya into a hug, "Oh Maya, I'm so sorry."
Maya didn't say anything and enjoyed the warmth from her best friend. She didn't realize this, but a hug is what she needed after all. "It's all my fault Riley. Isn't it?"
Riley shook her head disagreeing, "Maya no, it's not like that. Lucas got his memories back. Maya he's okay!" Maya looked at Riley a look of hope coming across her face. But then the thought of Lucas finding out about his sister, it just made that hope go away and sink into a black hole.
"But his sister... Riley how am I going to tell him?"
"About his sister waking up from the coma? Maya he'll be ecstatic! Better yet, both of you should-"
"Riley, Bella is dead."
Just like that the mood in the room changed. Riley looked down, trying to comprehend Maya's words. Maya shook her head and sat down on the bed. Why couldn't she and Lucas just stayed together living happily ever after? Why couldn't she just have common sense and just stayed after Homecoming? She should've been the one hit by the car, not Lucas.
"Maya, your gonna have to tell him. He has his memories back now. He's okay."
"But he'll hate me." Maya looked at Riley the tears coming back again.
"No he won't, he loves you Maya. He always did."
