The kiss got more heated, Lucas put his hand on Maya's cheek, laying her down. Maya didn't know what it would lead to, but she enjoyed it every second. The kiss brought fire to them, sparks, butterflies, and they couldn't stop. They both needed each other, they were two broken souls.
"Maya!," They both separated in a hurry, Maya turned around and saw her mom standing in the doorway.
"M-mom, I-I thought your shift ended at twelve," Maya was confused and embarrassed, "Yeah it was, to spend more time with you, but I come home and see you making out with a, boy!"
Lucas stood behind the mother and daughter, he wanted to observe this moment, "What difference does this make? I made out with a boy, so what. You made out with dad, and look where that led," Maya didn't think, she just said the words right out of her mouth.
"Get out, and your boy toy! I don't want to see you right now!," Maya felt her eyes moisten, she grabbed Lucas's hand and walked out of her apartment. Lucas and Maya walked out into the starry night, he was concerned on how Maya felt.
"Maya,"
"Lucas, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry for that, scene. I liked the kiss, I really did, it's just that, maybe I'm not ready,"
Lucas stopped and pulled Maya's wrist gently. She turned around and Lucas saw her red eyes, her cheeks glistening, "Maya, I want to be with you," Maya took Lucas's cheeks and kissed him again. She had the same fiery feeling inside her, "Lucas, I think it's time I finally tell you my story."
Lucas didn't feel excited about knowing her secrets, no, he felt proud. He felt proud Maya could finally trust him. As he said, he wanted to hold her when she cried, "Okay, let's go to Central Park."
-
Maya and Lucas were both seated on the bench, Lucas held Maya hand, "Remember, if it's too much, you don't have to go on-," Maya interrupted him, "No, it's okay, it's time."
Maya took a deep breath, "When I was five I met a girl name Riley Matthews, we were the best of friends, from sharing graham crackers to Starbucks drinks. When I was in third grade, my mom had a beautiful baby girl," A tear went down Maya's face, Lucas started to hold her.
"She had ten fingers and ten toes, the problem was she had asthma, but that wasn't a big deal. My father thought he couldn't take it and decided to leave. I was in seventh grade, Lily, my sister, started to get sick," By now Maya's tears fell, but she went on, she had to be strong.
"She started to cough and cough, my mom didn't pay attention because she worked three jobs, me and Riley did. One day my mom finally noticed when she saw Lily coughing up blood on her tuna melt. I remember her reaction, no five year old should ever go through that,"
"Maya, if you don't want to,"
"No, I want to, for Lily," Lucas nodded before letting Maya continue, "We went to the doctors and they said she had lung cancer. I remember my mom sobbing, Riley crying, but Lily just smiled. She had to go through chemotherapy, but it was so much money. But Lily said not to, for a five year old she was smart.
"For a few months she was happy and I was happy. She was getting better, but on her birthday, things went downhill. It started with Lily having her breakfast dinner, to her coughing and coughing. I still remember the screams and cries, and I just stood there, doing nothing," Lucas held Maya even more tighter.
"Riley and me mourned a lot, I didn't even have a chance to go to Lily's funereal, it was too much. The last day of seventh grade, Riley decided to bring more pain in my life and tell everyone. That was the end of me."
"Maya, I'm so sorry, no one should ever go thought that pain," Lucas knew how she felt, he's been there. As they both leaned into each other's arms, they knew that they weren't broken. Lucas and Maya knew that they were two broken souls, two broken souls who learned to love.
And they cherished that.
