LUKE'S POV:

My heart was pounding like a drum as I stepped off of the plane. I was finally home. After months of being on tour, I was once again on Australian soil. It even smelled  like home.

"Hey mate you're holding up traffic." Calum joked from behind me. I quickly moved out of the way, dragging my luggage behind me.

"HOME SWEET HOME!" Ashton belted as soon as he popped out of the plane door. Yeah. I agreed silently. Home sweet home.

I quickly took inventory of my things and rushed through the airport and onto the curb for pick up. My phone read, '7:33'. I let out a breath of relief, mum should be here any minute. I set my bag down and turned to face my band mates. Calum, Ashton and Mikey had never looked more tired and worn, but they were such good sports. They all had bright smiles plastered on their faces as they talked. I walked up to them and put my arms around them, coaxing us into a group hug.

"I love you guys." Ashton grinned.

"Love yah too." I replied. "It was a great tour...more music to come. We're living the life." I added.

"It's only begun, yah know?" Mikey said. "More tours, more concerts, more albums.." He gazed of dreamily. "I couldn't have done it without you guys."

"Ditto." Calum nodded.

"Hey boys!" A familiar, angelic voice sounded from behind me. Mom! An inner voice rejoiced.

"Liz!" Ashton yelled, running past me to hug my mom. The other boys followed him. I chuckled softly and followed calmly behind. In all honesty, I'd hung back to clear my eyes of the forming tears. I wasn't normally so sensitive but I was so tired and homesick.

"I've missed you boys so much." Mum wrestled with them and kissed their heads as she leaned out the car window.

"We've missed you too!" The boys cooed in unison like babies. I grabbed my stuff and casually tucked it into the truck. When mum saw me, she threw the car in park and ran out to the curb. Her warm arms wrapped around me. I breathed in her familiar scent and my stress melted away.

"Hi mum." I murmured, returning her hug. I flashed the guys a helpless look. "Can we get out of here please?" I whispered and she nodded hastily.

"Of course, love." She answered. With a few more heart felt goodbyes, we were finally on our way home.

"So Luke.." My mum began in a peculiar voice. "There's something I need to tell you."

This was never good. My eyebrows knitted together as I turned to gaze at her. "And that is?"

"While you've been gone... I've uhm.." She stopped and started biting her lip.

"Oh get on with it." I coaxed.

"I met somebody." She confessed. Oh? I sighed heavily and stared at the window. I definitely wasn't expecting that. I guess I'm just one of those kids who always hoped his parents would get back together. Called me old fashioned.

"That's erm..great." I laughed nervously. A wave of worry washed over her face.

"What's wrong, love?"

"Oh well nothing." I scratched my head. "It's just a surprise. As long as you're happy."

"His name is Gus." She smiled. I had to admit, I hadn't seen her eyes light up like that in a while.. "He's actually American, he used to be in their military and he retired and came to Australia!" She gushed.

"Cool." I muttered, ignoring her hurt expression. I was too tired for this. She didn't bring him up at all for the rest of the ride home and about a block away from home I started feeling guilty for being so cold. "So when do I get to meet him?" I asked.

"Well you see..that's the thing." She began slowly. Here's the funny thing, she didn't even have time to finish that sentence. Because at that moment we pulled up and there was a strange man sitting on my dad's porch, there was a strange car parked in my dad's driveway and I had a strange feeling he looked awful comfortable in my dad's house.
