LUKE'S POV:
"I feel like i've failed her." I admitted bitterly to Jack who was siting across from me. He decided that we should go out and eat to get my mind off of things.
"You did all you could." Jack replied with a frown on his face. I shook my head and drank lazily from my cup, watching the ice clink around at the bottom of my cup. "Hey look at me." He demanded.
I gazed up at him reluctantly, my lips set firmly in a line. His stern blue eyes cut right through me. A brotherly love will do that to you. "She told you that she didn't want your help... if you tried to help her, you would've pushed her away."
"I would rather her hate me and be safe that love me and be in a coma." I retorted, blinking away from him as a tear threatened to spill out. He clenched his jaw and i could tell he didn't know what to say to that.
"What would you like?" A voice pulled me from my muddled thoughts. I glanced up at the waitress and it was the same girl that gave me Eve's personal information .
"Pancakes... lots of them." I answered, unable to look her in the eyes. Just another person i'd used. She took Jack's order and announced in a happy voice;
"I'll be right out with your drinks!"
"Damn." Jack sighed, leaning back and letting out a deep breath. "She's hot." He winked. I cringed at him, at flung my rolled up straw wrapper at him. He smiled and slid out of the booth.
"I gotta gotta take a whiz." Jack grinned. I watched him disappear into the men's room and saw the waitress coming back. She set down the tray of drinks and then rested her hands on her hips, looking at me expectantly.
"Can I help you?" I asked, furrowing my eyebrows.
"Well yeah." She answered. "You owe me remember?"
Shit. I vaguely recalled her saying that when she handed me Eve's number.
"Uhm yeah, what do you want?" I asked, hoping she'd ask for concert tickets or something stupid.
"I want to spend the day with you."
Woah what... I glanced around nervously.
"Can you give me a sec to think about it?" I asked, watching Jack approaching us from the corner of my eye.
"Of course!" She chirped. "Let me know when i bring your food."
She bounced away and Jack slid back into the booth grinning like an idiot.
"Well she could be the answer to your Sheila problem!" He said.
I kicked him under the table. "That's not even funny." I growled. Well... she can hang with me I guess. I'm not that interesting and i'm in a horrible mood but... she did do a lot for me. Just like that my mind was made up.
She brought us back food and I told her it was cool for her to hang with us. Jack was clearly taken aback and it took everything within me not to throw my plate at him. Once we were done eating, she walked up to us.
"Well i'm off, where we headed?" She asked.
"What's your name again?" I asked, leading the way out of the diner. Jack's suspicious lovey dovey eyes were giving me cancer.
"Emma." Her smile faltered for a moment when she realized i didn't remember.
"Right." I forced a smile. Even though i felt like absolute shit and couldn't get Sheila out of my head. Imagining her broken and bloody and not being able to even talk. My stomach clenched painfully.
