LUKE'S POV:

After about thirty minutes I got Louis to settle down and I walked him by myself out to a patch of grass where we sat under a tree. Sheila had gone back inside to handle some of the other dogs. I rested my back against the tree trunk, holding Louis' leash tight in my grasp.

"hey buddy." I whispered as he came up to me, his eyes begging for attention. He spun around a few times and dropped into my lap. "oof!" I groaned. "You're a LABrador not a LAPrador." I joked, patting his head.

Before I even knew it, my eye lids had become too heavy and I drifted off into sleep.

Realizing I'd fallen asleep, I jumped awake. I blinked the sunlight out of my eyes and noticed that evening had set in. How long was I asleep? I wondered, rubbing my temple. And where the fuck is the dog??

I looked around frantically for him but him and his leash were no where to be seen. "Louis!" I called out. "Louis!" I headed back for the shelter. I veered into kennel one, knocking Sheila clean off of her feet.

I grabbed her arm seconds before she hit the concrete and pulled her to my chest. We stood there like that for a few seconds. I could feel her heart pounding hard against my chest, her breath on my neck..

Then she stepped away from me and cleared her throat. "I put Louis back in his kennel a few hours ago and let you sleep... you were out cold." She mumbled, staring at the floor.

"Oh okay. How long was I asleep?" I asked.

"For about three hours. Come on we're going to be late for dinner." Sheila pushed past me, still avoiding eye contact. I sighed heavily, feeling dizzy and tired. We didn't talk at all on the way home, she seemed upset though.

SHEILA'S POV:

Let go of him. My inner voice demanded. No. I argued. Sheila...enough. Let go of him. I let go of Luke and stepped out of his arms. I saw the hurt in his eyes so looked away.

"I put Louis back in his kennel a few hours ago and let you sleep... you were out cold." I told him in a quiet voice, looking at the floor.

"Oh okay. How long was I asleep?" He asked.

"For about three hours. Come on we're going to be late for dinner." I told him, pushing past him and heading to the car.

He was silent all the way there. I wanted to puke, my stomach was churning like crazy. Fifteen minutes felt like hours but we finally made it home.

"How was it?" Liz cooed as soon as we stepped in the house. The smell of spaghetti was in the air and my stomach growled.

"It was fun." Luke smiled confidently. "Sheila showed me everything." He turned his gaze on me and I flushed hoping Liz wouldn't notice.

"Well that's great! Come on let's sit down for dinner." She beckoned us to the table. Dad was already there and he greeted me with a warm smile.

"How's ol' Sasha?" Dad asked as soon as we were all seated. I saw Luke perk up.

LUKE'S POV:

"You know Sasha?" I asked Gus. I didn't really like talking to him, but I knew it made my mum happy. Not to mention, Sheila had been seated next to me and I needed something to keepmy mind off of how close her leg was to mine.

"Yeah." He answered, seeming surprised that I talked to him. "I've been in there a few times and she just growls and growls." He chuckled, digging into his spaghetti.

"Actually." Sheila looked at me. "Sasha and Luke are two peas in a pod."

"Is that right?" Gus asked looking at me in an awestruck way.

I shrugged. "I like dogs."

"Well I'll be damned. That dog doesn't sit still for nobody." Gus grinned, shoving his face full of more spaghetti. I pushed a meatball around on my plate for a while before realizing I wasn't hungry.

Sheila's knee nudged mine under the table and I felt my face warm.

"May I be excused?" I asked suddenly. Mum's eyes narrowed at me plate.

"You haven't even touched your food." She frowned.

"I'm just not hungry... I've been so tired." I told her, already gathering up my plate. She mumbled something under her breath but I just ignored it. I dumped my plate off in the sink and headed up for my room.

After a nice long shower I finally slipped into my bed. It was only 8pm. I closed my eyes in attempt to sleep but it just wasn't working. I tossed and turned for a few hours before sitting up; sweating and frustrated.

I ran a hand through my hair and looked up at my door. Without evening thinking I got up and headed towards Sheila's door.
